Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Never work for VZ again, never ever ever

The decision to require VSP acceptors to never apply for a verizon job again seems oddly shortsighted and also sends a poor message to what will be many managers. They want the ties of many years of collective experience permanently severed. A 1-3 year ban may make some sense to ensure no revolving back to the company right after the VSP. However, only a very small group would come back, and if they are very qualified to help VZ succeed why slam the door in their face forever. The message that all are replacable cogs in the machine is clear, but there are many with state of the art best in class knowledge and experience that also know VZ and the market. VZ wants nothing to do with them ever again, even though many have spent significant portions of their lives at VZ. Interesting priorities for the new vZ.

IIRC, you could bridge your years when returning after a RIF if

a) you came back w/in the number of weeks in your RIF package (so your RIF package was for 20 weeks of pay and you returned on week 15 after your off-payroll date), and

b) you paid the company back for the weeks remaining on your RIF package (so the above hypothetical employee would need to pay back 5 weeks of pay).

Otherwise you would be SOL.

I left and came back, wasn’t bridged, now I’m leaving with 50 weeks instead of the 60 I would have gotten if bridged, but I’m RUNNING to the exit and have no desire to ever return.

Why the hell would you want to go back after the way they treat there employees? Man that place did a solid job at brainwashing everyone.

I know many people who left and returned years later who didn't have their service time bridged. I don't know that it is a factor this time. I think it's part of the "master plan" to change the Company and they don't want the old dogs back in the mix. I doubt most would come back anyway unless they were desperate so it probably doesn't matter.

Verizon set a precedent by allowing former employees to bridge in their years of service. So if you left with 20 years of service and returned as an employee, you would once again have 20 years of service and that's what their trying to eliminate.

People can still come back and contract after six months. If someone needs to try a permanent job at Verizon again, they probably should not take the package.

In theory yes, but I think most of the people heading out the door who VZ wouldn't want to leave probably won't want to come back.
