Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

With the minimum wage going up to $15, expect Sam's Club to start eliminating even more positions

I was a former Tech Lead, and I left the company 11 days ago. I remember when the changes to Claims the Club Manager told everyone at the time that no one would lose their position.

Yet here we are.

I feel terrible for the two awesome Receiving associates that I had the pleasure of working with the past three years; they each have been with the company for nearly 3 decades.

With the minimum wage going up to $15, expect Sam's Club to start eliminating even more positions. In addition, the company will expect all current associates to be more productive.

The boat is sinking, and I'm glad I left before it did.

Costco does not need to follow Sams .... there base membership is much stronger . They will have less shrink, more profit. Sams Club will see all there profit flying out the front door this Christmas Season .

Is Costco trying to stay competitive by having all self-checkouts, scan and go apps and all of the cut throat tactics Sam’s Club is using? Are they in danger of becoming Sears and Kmart?

Go into a redesigned McDonalds and place your order at a kiosk that eliminates several cashier positions at McDonald’s.

No need to stand in line at the Post Office, print labels at home. Local Post Office window jobs are no longer needed.

Avoid the long line at the Delta Airlines check in desk, print your boarding passes and baggage tags at home. No need for 4 agents at the desk now, so airline eliminates several jobs.

No need to slow down and pay a toll booth worker the $7.85 toll to use the Ohio Turnpike, just get EZ Pass. Now instead of 4 ticket booths each way having a person taking money, only need 2 each way.

I think you probably see where I am going with this. Businesses, especially ones that are public, have to continue to bring in more profit each quarter or the stock price drops. Now not only are they not making enough profit to please Wall Street, but there stock just dropped 20%. Who is more evil, Sam’s for trying to stay competitive by cutting controllable costs, or Sears/Kmart management for resisting change and costing their employees tens of thousands of jobs?

Good for you.

For me, I really need this job and I have no other options.

Our local economy is destroyed, so really I cannot go anywhere...
