It amazes me how uninformed people are. Or maybe how people want to bend the facts. The pensions are protected . You can twist it anyway you like, unless its something catastrophic you will collect your pension.

All private sector "Single" employer Pension Plans fall under ERISA. The PBGC was set up under the law to insure against the eventual and expected misdeeds of corporate America. The Prudential run around for the management plan is like the one and only example of an escape from ERISA and while not optimal still very well protected by insurance law. Prudential would need to go bankrupt before there would be any risk of fund loss. The case against it passed muster up to the Supreme court level as to it being "like protection" to PBGC coverage. Multi employer plans are treated slightly differently and not for the better.
