Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

True?

This is a non-issue given the direction the company is taking with Proximity. On 7/31 we will go down from +/- 8000 to 5000. The trainer for our area is gone because there will be no need to train people who won't be here. Things like drones will be used by the 3rd party vendor the company may use, or the company may just ask people how much they want and is it enough?

Is this true? 3,000+ seems a little to much to be credible. Am I wrong?

I'm a proximity rep and drive 2 1/2 hours one way to part of my territory. Check out Contractor Connection..... You haven't a clue what going to happen. I'm a 28 year field rep. We are pretty much done in the field if you just look at what Corporate is going to do. We are the huge company expense with no return and they want to get rid of us. Bean Counters.................

I would give it a couple of years at most before the next cuts come in Proximity. Leadership needs to figure out what exactly Proximity does (they would have known if they had done the job for a while). Once they think that they have figured out what Proximity does, they will need to determine what parts of the job could be brought inside. Then...they need to figure out who inside will do the work and hopefully train them. I predict Leadership will complete 2 out of the 3 steps and make a stupid decision. I agree that Large Losses and coverage issues require Proximity handling. I also agree that laughing at others misfortune is not a good thing. Karma will rear her ugly head.

Lots of good points! Any thoughts on when (not if) proximity will be cut again?

Outsource. . . Outsource. . . Outsource. Your policyholders will thank you for it.

@UiXACc2-yzf - I hate to break it to you but we don't have a well staffed or well trained claim central. Or, for that matter, a well motivated one either. No offense to anyone there, it isn't your fault that you have been set up to fail. In theory, you are correct that most of what we do could be done inside. All mail, phone calls, ALE, and Contents could be done inside. The reality is that the Farm doesn't have the will to properly staff it to make it successful. Proximity could easily be there just to handle the most complex issues and do so with less than half the staff it has now.

OP - I think you took a post from another thread and made it a new thread. That being said, there isn't much of a future left in Proximity. 3rd party vendors have been used for some time by weather proximity & weather deployed. There are a number of Independent firms that we use to backfill staffing when needed. Can the company expand that to include more work in Proximity - sure. Most of the work Proximity does could be done by a well staffed and well educated centralized environment. Large losses and coverage issues would be a stretch, but much of what is coming out to Proximity could be handled inside. Proximity has been gradually cut since the late 90's. I think we were up around 17,000 and are now down to 5,000. I hope to make one more re-org.

@UiXACc2-ikx is a bit harsh, but yes, Proximity is going down big time. Section Managers took a voluntary buy out in much larger numbers than expected, TMs were slashed almost in half, Weather & Proximity were combined with a number of people not getting job offers. Those without offers will be gone 7/31. There will be a lot of good talent leaving and the company doesn't care. The worst part was that the staffing decisions were random. Seriously, someone at Corporate created territories and if only one person lived there, they were fine. If more than one person lived in the territory then they competed, regardless of job performance. We had a couple of level 3 reps competing while several level 1s were fine. Let that sink in, job performance meant nothing in the decision to keep you or let you go. Moving forward, no one is safe. Ever.

oh yes, it is true. The Proximity footprint is going down in a big way. Weather Proximity and Fire Proximity are combining, Field trainers have been slashed, Field SIU has been slashed. And the best part of all, is that the ones left behind will have to do more work.

One of the big problems with how this all has taken place is that everyone is concerned with their own little corner of hell, I mean SF. Systems has been laughing at the business analysists being cut, The non-named offices are concerned with when they will close. There is no big picture that everyone is focusing on. SF is grinding through a lot of people to get to a much smaller footprint. Like it or not...
