Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

IT to be hit again

I am hearing the rumors of layoffs as well. Especially in IT and operations. As always the rumor is the layoff will be big but who knows. Ive heard that rumor before and it doesnt materialize. Regardless if you are one of the people who gets let go you will be better off anyway.

Is this true? Anybody has any info beyond a vague rumor?

I was LR'd. It was a tough personal journey. Cisco had become much of my life outlook and reason to get up and face the world everyday. I think back on all the times I drove to the office as the sun was just coming up, and then leaving only after 7pm conference calls were over. That was a good decade and a half of my existence. Anyone that goes through it, if you were as dedicated to the company as I was, will definitely have a tough time working through it. But now over a year later, I go through it all again. If you inherently enjoy working on technology, the world is your oyster. There's a load of great stuff to work on and great people to work with out there. To those that take this journey, against their own will, embrace the change; you will be a better you once it's through.

The layoffs in IT will only impact employees not politically connected. It's always sad to watch hardworking people with families lose their health insurance and income.

As a software developer, I don't mind seeing layoffs in IT. Please stop "improving" IT infrastructure.

As a human being, I dislike seeing layoffs when not absolutely necessary (due to financial trouble).

Due to the merger in TS & AS many redundant AS positions will be chopped. AS is bloated & highly overrated. If you are a grade 11 or 12 in AS then you are a target this time as your work can easily be done by grade 6 or 8. Due to the flat revenue with no growth, many positions are no longer required. Massive automation will also aggravate the layoffs in AS to keep the opex as low as possible. AS will be transformed significantly this time as they never had too many layoffs in the past.
