Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Getting a job does not mean keeping it

Being recently employed means nothing when it comes to layoffs. I know it's usually older workers who are targeted, but in the last two rounds I saw two people who were employed less than six months prior laid off.

Just want to emphasize how literally nobody is safe when it comes to layoffs.

Way past time for the overpaid "Velvet Hammer" and all her pricy lackies to retire. Stock price would go up immediately.

The HR will always make sure that token younger people are included in the lawsuites to avoid lawsuites

OP is a troll. Why bother stating this? Other than the wireline union folks everyone here is subject to layoff. Why bother being so negative?

Getting placed on the list is determined by your leadership. Employees are ranked and decisions are made based on performance, favoritism, experience, education, etc. So no it does not matter how long you're employed and young can be let go versus a senior person for all the prior reasons listed.

Apparently some Union people can't be laid off. I don't know if that's always the case or what.

It might be some kind of grand-fathered in situation.

I assume it only applies to wireline, I don't see anyone from wireless saying they have layoff protection, but I could be wrong.
