Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

This site is done

EUV tools pulled out and being sold 7 5 3 nm gone. No Apple no AMD no automotive no IBM no partners no product no nothing. This wasn't a layoff this was a purge of desperation before they close the doors. Get out asap while you can

This company has a huge portfolio in older technologies (I think over 50% of it's revenue is over 65nm). This may be difficult to hear for so many who lost their livelihood, and were told they were the way forward. We were last to 14nm, we would be last to 10, 7. This is mostly because GF is the new kid on the block. TSMC, and others have many years of leading edge development... The people and the processes to do it. Try to do 14 and 7 out of nothing is near impossible. We were set up to fail. Unfortunately many had to suffer as a result of the lack of this realization.

Its clear nobody wants to work with Global Foundries anymore period. Every company that wanted chips made or had chips made by GF has ran away to TSMC. Who will bother with a company filled with no hope ? No execution. IBM needs 5nm Global let them down which in turn Global Floundering is IBM so they let themselves down.

Site was done long ago.

It was ALWAYS on life support from the investors.

What happened was the result of the investors REFUSING to sink any more cash.

The best managers were headhunted by our competitors or left to successful companies.

Those managers who were left were those SO incompetent that NOBODY wanted them.

Everyone should listen! If you’ve been in semi-conductor for more than a minute, these are the signs! Take those interviews, use your time, get those medical procedures. What’s left? Can’t survive on 14nm for the next 10 or even 5 years! Demand answers! Caulfield was IBMs Hatcher guy so he knows the deal! You’ve been warned!
