Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

More info on incoming changes

Reposting this from a reply for important and detailed info, I hope the person who originally posted it does not mind:

I have a friend that is married to a sm and she said they are getting ready to downsize asm's. Sales will determine the amount of asm's. Some stores will lose some and some will gain some. Also dpts are combining. There will be 5-6 dpt mngr positions eliminated. 2 & 46 combine. 8 & 13/4 will combine. Jewlery, lingerie & shoes combine. All domestics and furniture will combine. Garden and seasonal will combine. Garden and seasonal has already combined in my store. Our jewlery dpt mgr went in maternity leave last month and they told her shes losing her position. When she comes back she will have to find another position. I am in a small format store in central cali.

Our Pets/Chemicals/Paper goods, Garden Center/Seasonal, and Jewelry/Shoes have been combined at the store I work at for several years now.

Don’t forget about the 2% raise a year!

They are no longer competitive as far as wages. Not in love with their PR stunts.

It’s all fake news nothing is ever correct when you read it or hear about it.

Walmart stores are a nightmare, it’s a very dysfunctional company. Walmart is bleeding experience, people are leaving especially long term. They have managed to take every perk or benefit away from people. Including their schedules!

Moving away from Bentonville HO is definitely an advancement, except for the locals who couldn't imagine living anywhere else... Walmart better find a way to educate the locals in order to keep a steady talent pool at their doorstep.

There is no way I would recommend to anyone moving to NW Arkansas to take a job with Walmart. You have to experience working for someone who started their career there in the 1990s, who is immune to learning, and views technology as a threat, to know what I mean. Imagine being stuck in an entire department of people like that from the bottom up to all the senior directors. It's a nightmare.

Moving out of that place is probably an advancement...

You are just discussing the store layoffs. What about the 1000 associates laid off from home office? There is no where else to work in Bentonville other than Walmart, most of these people will have to move.

Twenty year plus associates get one hour pto per every 6.78 hours worked. That is 295 hours a year. That is over seven weeks a year.

@UTvnFDM-gmc - Did not realize that Walmart provided 6 weeks of vacation....I only knew you could get 4 after working 15 years.....unless your combining all the holidays/personal days into your total count. However, if you work for ASDA it may be 6 weeks but I don't know.

@pfr...I never said anyone should leave their job! I said I understand how hard it is to walk away from a long term job. I won't just walk away from $19 an hr and 6 weeks vacation. Ive worked hard for that. I got inside info and shared it. Never said anyone should just quit. Maybe you should learn to comprehend what you read and dont be an a**hole!!! I care for my fellow associates and hope they survive this new structure coming our way. Sounds to me like you just want to be a jerk.

You're warning us to leave with one breath but insisting you're staying with the other? Hmmm......that seems a lot like you want less job competition.

I was the original poster. No I do not mind. Everyone needs to know what's coming. It's their livelihood at stake. I've worked for walmart 26+ yrs. I've seen many changes happen. Some changes dont work and they change it again. Like getting rid of the UPC clerk then a year or so later they brought it back only to eliminate it again a couple years later. No position is safe anymore. Good luck to everyone working in positions that are being eliminated. I know how hard it is to leave a job you've been at for many years. Trust me, it's the only reason I am still here. I will stay until they force me out.
