Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

How is life after being sold by GE?

Maybe I've missed it, but I'm curious as to how our former GE colleagues who worked in businesses that were sold off (GE Plastics, GE Silicones, GE Appliances, KAPL, among others) have fared under their new owners. I'd like to invite those folks to comment on this site. What was the effect on your pay, benefits, pension situation, etc.

My brother-in-law worked for a former GM division that went bankrupt and was finally sold to a German firm. The German firm showed real interest and invested in the business to help make it a success, and things got better, so there was an upside for the employees.

401K payments have been weeks late since Industrial Solutions got sold to ABB. Benefits cost more. Lost the Pension benefit, but 401K match increased to 7.5%; however, online HR tools for benefits are worse than GE's.

European bureaucracy and politics in play with expectation that our business is divided up among other business units of ABB as our leaders exit for greener pastures.

I'm sure that no one would misrepresent themselves in this thread. Sure. No one.

Appliances went to 3 tier with new hires at $12 hr. You get bottom of the barrel for that wage. Company has been trying to get rid of seniority so they can lay off the higher paid guys. The union has stopped that so far. How anyone can think these things are better is beyond me.

My friends from Appliances Louisville said they were doing very well. Hands-off leadership from new owners. Friend from Plastics took a job in Shanghai under the Sabic owned plastics business. Also doing well. Have not heard any stories of woe owing to being bought.
