Has any craft person been surplussed lately, when your work group had plenty of work? We are feeling pretty good about not being suplussed anytime soon because we have so much work here in Tennessee.

Ask NRC folks drowning in work if that saves them from layoffs.
It’s all about wireline revenue....the more it falls, the more bodies they will get rid of! We’ve flat out been told that.
A year later and there are people being surplused this quarter in Brentwood.
"As long as it is work in a profitable part of the company you are fine." This statement is 100% incorrect in every aspect.
The company can outsource your work to the Philippines or non employee contractors in TN at anytime. Busy doesn’t equate to job security anymore.
I can't agree with the OP at all. I have been so swamped with work, VP escalations, HOT VP escalations, and HOT escalations and I was so relieved to be surplussed. I am fortunate that I have many years though. I was also #1 in jobs issued and the other numbers they go by for being most productive. So I can't agree with that statement at all that the OP has made.
Also, I did the 1G, 10G, and 100G circuits that bring in hugh amounts of revenue so I also don't agree with "if you are making money" you are safe. I think it is a numbers game with the 'bean counters' in Dallas. All 3 in my group are so busy with work that we have to have contractors to be able to do all the work. I will go to one of those companies. I see a small % of people staying to be project managers and many of us being contractors. They have even told us that in Construction and Engineering. Reduce the cost of labor !!! Contractors do reduce the cost of labor.
IF THAT'S THE CASE MOST LINE MANAGERS WOULD HAD BEEN FIRED BY NOW. OnLy people that have a brain were systematically targeted by management incompetence
I was layed off in April, got my Area Mgr to resign due to not being able to show how he made his decision on who stays and goes,, after my letter to upper management. Glad I'm not a part of such a corrupt company that cares only about the paycheck. #bunchofsorrymfs. Keep the hope, your all gonna need it!!!
If you're in the wireline side of the company expect the continued slash and burn going forward.
If you have less than 22 years as a craft employee it's a toss up surviving more than another 2-3 year. if you have 25 or more you'll probably last until the lights are turned off on the wireline side of the company.
back in 2012 they company surplus so many techs that they had lo loan other from others areas paying Per Diem, previous post is right, nothing to do with workload, after this they hired a new bunch of temporary workers (18 Months), bypassing Union rules, a total win for the company. No job is secure, I have seen people with 20 years seniority let go, unable to locate a position , with no availability in the 35 miles radius
work has nothing to do with layoffs. All about direction the company is heading and how quick they want to get there. Look around and you will see.
If it don't have anything to do with cellular or entertainment services, I would be worried, because your days are numbered. I would say good till possibly middle to end of 2019. I know people that had so much work they could not see straight, and they still got surplussed, even though their contribution to the company was very profitable. They moved their work elsewhere. You just never know.
As long as it is work in a profitable part of the company you are fine.
