I heard the company has seen a severe downturn in quality and honest results since eliminating the retail account executive position and they’ll be bringing it back in a more condensed capacity. Any truth to this?

There is a ton of fraud coming out of their COR stores as well. The amount of fraudulent sales at AT&T would make the Wells Fargo scandal look tiny.
So in 2 years you will reword this post to say -

Problem- the bean counters and executive decision makers do not have a clue what goes on at the “FRONTLINE”.
The RAEs spent years cultivating relationships with the Local Dealers. YEARS. Then BOOM GONE! Our COR ‘LEADERSHIP’ who have no clue or give a Sh-- regarding the RELATIONSHIP BUILDING aspect of this partnership are thrown in with a mealy mouse online course telling them what to do.
Result- Backlash
COR back office personnel have often spent years perfecting, updating & staying on point with corporate compliance. Then BOOM GONE! Our COR personnel will be thrown in with a mealy mouse online course telling them what to do.
Result- Implosion
