Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Out today

This place is a bad joke now. I gave my notice today and start new job in 3 weeks.

Thank goodness the job market is hot; I don’t have to work in a sweat shop with mindless leadership anyone!

Braveheart.....FREEDOM!!!’

The company is still filled with kool-aide drinkers. It was so weird. Never in my life did I witness a place where people were so brainwashed. They would move to a hub for the EXACT SAME JOB. Most of the time it was claim rep.

Don't let them get to you. There will always be a smart a-- kool-aid drinker. It will get them too eventually. You can count on that and the last laugh is yours. Those that are drinking the kool-aid are really either new or completely ignorant of what is going on. They say ignorance is bliss, thus the reason they are happy.

Yeah it’s right decision at least for me too. Leadership is a joke due to no courage and being technically inept. Resources are gone.

Typing my resignation this afternoon. Going to competition but not revealing it.

I just don’t know how anyone can work in that kind of environment long term. The stress over bs metrics would make it unbearable. It’s stressful enough doing claims and all they did was make it worse.

I put him on hold for the rest of the day!

They walk me out Friday afternoon, I was nervous at first but when I got out the door it was the most important decision I have made in my whole life, I was more concerned about my friends they are all interviewing I hope everything works out for them.

I start my new job in a week, it was almost out of control at SF we were just deleting things. Good luck u are going to need it.

Resignations are effective immediately if you are leaving for a competitor. May have been the policy before but they are definitely enforcing it now.

One of our PIP specialists gave her notice today and they just walked her out. She wasn’t even allowed to finish the day or gather her things all because she divulged she had left for a competitor. Good riddance! I’d take my two week vacay and tell SF to kick rocks!

There is no factual data to support claims paid by experience level and amount truly owed. So, some believe they pay to much, others to little. Also, training and ultimately talent plays a role across all experience levels. In regards to rates actually expense trends are easier to justify than loss, or loss cost trends because expense trends are less volatile. Wild swings in loss or allocated loss expense is much more difficult for DOI actuaries to accept. They tend to minimize those as aberrations. Departments of insurance have no opinions on salaries as long as you can account for them. Virtually every public company would have higher executive compensation because of stock options and they have no trouble in rate filings because of that nuance.

It has been my observations that inexperienced adjusters will sometimes overpay claims, but overall will more often under pay claims as they think an adjuster's job is to save the company money rather than compensate policyholders and claimants fairly for their loss. In hence, the company saves money with both lower personnel expenses and claim paid outs.

Also, I am surely not an expert on claims paid out verses operating expenses etc. However, I have always thought that when raising premiums, it is an easier sell with regulators rates to do so because of higher actual costs of claims paid out, rather than with higher operating expenses such as higher salaries.

Others, please respond or add corrections to my opinions.

Let me start by saying my QTD was March 31, and I was with the company over 25 years, so I’m already gone and damn happy about it. My question is, I don’t understand how they or anyone thinks they are saving money by paying 35k for a kid right out of college vs 75k, or let’s even say 100k for a tenured, experienced employee. That 65k “saved” is a drop in the bucket when you look at the millions going out the back door in fraud, fines due to legislative mandates, missed deadlines, etc! Anyone who works in claims or information security knows what I’m talking about. One class action lawsuit will eat every bit of that and ten times that amount! I don’t understand this short sightedness.

Congrats!!! I wish you all the best in your new endeavor. Are you staying the 3 weeks or just saying eff it?

That was one of the reasons i was stuck there as long as i was. Even before EOM was implemented at my location, I wanted out of claims but a poor job market kept me stuck. There is a life after SF.

Part of the plan. We don't want an employee base with more than five years experience. Keep costs down to keep premiums low. Only people we want with tenure here are our senior leaders

Happy for you. So funny some troll posts like 'cutting the fat, the disgruntled are leaving', etc...seems to me the ones leaving are the ones with the best attitudes who have marketable skills & experience. The slaves with no skills will be the only captives yet. Newer hires and new ppl out of college are internet savvy. Doesn't take much research to find out coming here is not a wise career move. Only exception would be to come here for a couple of years, gain valuable claims experience, let the farm pay for a few designations. Then leave on your own terms to a better company, make more money, be happy, have knowledge at least there might be a chance at growth somewhere else,

I'm afraid I'll have to make the same move on out, even though I've been at the farm for over 10 years and wanted to stay. They should never have gone this far down this path. Now all that will be left behind will be the trash.

After being there for 14 plus years knowing i was going to be laid off at first it was stressful but after testing the job market out I'm glad to be out of the toxic environment state farm has created. I say good luck to those that remain just understand there is life after state farm.
