Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Laying off in US, hiring in Ireland?

Can somebody explain to me how is this OK? While people are being laid off or forced to leave on their own practically on daily bases here, Cisco is adding more jobs in Ireland.

It looks like everybody is prioritized over American employees. I'm getting really, really tired of this.

50% sales are from Americas (not just United States).

Also, if 50% sales are from US, they should only have 50% jobs in the US. More openings in other regions are warranted, especially since US doesn't want to allow others to work in the US.

The only way American companies can survive is by hiring talent. Unfortunately, US has shut its doors. So out go the jobs.

VPs and top level work management work hand in hand with Indian outsourcing companies in Bay Area. 80% of the talent is useless from those outsourcing companies. Cisco CEO and others companies along with outsourcing companies in Bay Area are abusing H1-B visas. Motto is cut cost and sacrifice good engineers and quality.

America is not buying Cisco equipment. The rest of the world is. With work done in the US, they need to provide expensive healthcare, be wary of tariffs from trade wars and lose the best global talent. Why play the game on an uncertain turf? Ireland is a great bet!

Cisco makes products with "global" talent and in "global" markets. Why should Americans be entitled to all profits for sales globally?

The jobs are going where the opportunities sit, nothing to do with the typically racist American views that pop up on this forum

There are lots of Irish people in US, why is Cisco not hiring them? Hmmm, maybe the Irish Americans should move back to Ireland, what ya think?

You can bet that the high cost of health care in America is part of the reason. It is the silent killer of American jobs. Please spare all of us the rants about Obamacare. It may have raised the cost of health insurance for some individuals but it did not impact Cisco's costs.

Cotton gin? Assembly line? Artificial Intelligence? Embrace technology advances or get left behind. Nothing is guaranteed. Find a set of skills that are needed now and in the future, otherwise you too will become obsolete.

Its the same scenario as laying off US workers and hiring in India. Reduce your costs, increase profits and shareholders and executives become rich while American employees struggle to make ends meet

It’s called globalisation.

Wait until automation crosses the chasm and it’s robots who are doing most jobs. That’s the next wave and is closer than you might want to admit. Then you need to reskill to things that require imagination, which robots currently can’t master as well as us.

Maybe they support European customers given Cisco is a global company?!
