August 2018 layoffs in the works

Sounds like another round of layoffs are coming our way for the month of August. Such is the rumor here in RTP, IT.

This is getting old.

Large amounts of security, manager upset, getting called into a meeting now at 10AM Kanata Campus. Sounds like big layoffs here.

Just so people are up to date, LR's did happen in August, Groups were hit; Ops hit 56 people and 90% of a certain age and a few younger ones to balance it out. Skill set did not matter and performance did not matter just age. Inside source says over the next 18 months, it will be the security org that does the hiring. FYI

Im not there anymore (was gifted in the big round in 2016 with my entire team, which they later decided to rebuild because they figured out after what value we really brought...logic?). That said I was there this week visiting a former colleague and she received her gift that morning. She has a top shelf school degree and was already looking, but this is still hard on real people. I really thought Crisco would “get it” when Fran spoke about the People Deal and I believe her , however Chuck doesnt have the cohones to quit taking the easy way out to cut expenes to meet a fictitious street number. It RUINS employee morale for months leading up to and causes confusion and productivity loss for months after. This is basic psych 101 impact. Then they rehire anyway 4-6 months later. If you cant commit to your employee base to fix the morale bleeding you will never be considered a top company agsin by employees...you will be a stopgap for income only...just a job as another said, not a career. Cisco has great potential but until Chuck Robbins commits to his people that company will be a turnstile for management and the rank and file...doesnt take an mba to figure that out.

I wish people affected well. I did a major overhaul and pursued my passion as my day job. I help real people everyday and make 10x the impact I did with my phone/ conference call career at Cisco....I am so much better off now after my near 20 years at Cisco. Find your passion and go for it people...life wont wait for you to enjoy it. Im glad to have moved on. I wish Cisco people well...the people are still good there....the management just dont realize what they have nor how to be great again.

Since I left fiasco systems, I come here regularly and I have massive laughs. I get slightly less money, but I stopped taking medicaments, I sleep much more, I have more time for close friends and family. I got my life back in other words.

If you’re European, you’ll fully understand what I say.

I am hearing the rumors of layoffs as well. Especially in IT and operations. As always the rumor is the layoff will be big but who knows. Ive heard that rumor before and it doesnt materialize. Regardless if you are one of the people who gets let go you will be better off anyway.

Nothing new with August layoffs. Back when many people wanted to work at Cisco, it helped keep a quality employees, but now is just part of the race to the bottom.

To a person, everyone I've met who was either laid off or otherwise quite CSCO is happier, healthier and more excited about their career and life. In the end, no one is holding a gun to your head to work there. And if you're still there please have 100% confidence in the management; they will do whatever is necessary to look out for their own interest.

Every August for 7 years, no surprises here. I'll be surprised when there isn't an LR in August. Remember they already announced 250M for restructuring in FY19 so it's certain one is coming.

Will the August layoffs be as brutal as the May, June and July layoffs?

If so, we have nothing worry :D

Cisco has transformed into a job, and certainly not a career. Far too many layoffs and re-orgs, while the nepotism in certain organizations is disgusting.

We will make our number in Q4, and for that folks are entitled to their PL&I bonus. That isn't paid out in August. No, they will do this in October as they often do these LR's in late Q1. It looks good to the street as it helps Q1 earning report.
