Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

The Culture of Oracle

The crux of it is this: oracle today is full of lackeys and sycophants who operate in a corrupt manner to maintain their own status quo. You can’t be, or become, world-class anything with that kind of team. The c-suite is mediocre and they don’t hire anyone who could outshine them or who has more talent. They are the opposite of what good leadership does.

That’s all any investor or employee “candidate” needs to know to take their “investment” of money or time elsewhere.

The culture of oracle will not change. Leadership (the very top) won’t allow it, despite PR theatrics to the contrary.

I for one, quit, and want to see the truth about the company come out. Being out from under the gag order is freeing on a level that’s hard to describe. Just know that these posts about the culture and leadership of Oracle are accurate.

I don’t get it. What is holding people back from leaving??!!?? If you hate it and are so unhappy look elsewhere.

In Austin it’s more like 20 hours a week on average. But if you take the past 2 months it’s only 10 real hours of work if that. We are in a holding pattern.

It will get much worse, I think, before it gets better. They want people to leave so they don't have to pay out packages, and they are willing to put the thumb-screws to the employees to get them to go.

As the cloud income gets worse and worse, it will get worse internally, until, hopefully they do a real layoff.

I never really saw this side of Oracle until RB took over a few months ago as our VP. He has exhibited unethical toxic business practices that create a horrible environment to be in. When one of my colleagues mentioned this they were told something a lot the lines of “just leave then”. A really immature and unprofessional response. Kiss culture goodbye, he doesnt care about his people.

Culture s---s everywhere across all different departments. Good people are let go, the good who remain are looking or hoping to out last their manager and regime. The bad and unethical always remain. Always. HR doesn’t care and is corrupt and toxic too. Stress levels are off the charts. To survive who have to learn to how to backstab your peers. Oracle has lost all respect in the industry. Talk to anyone trying to sell SaaS IaaS and PaaS and the reputation and lack of customer references is all too real.

Send developers to the customer site to help, and they harass, insult and intimidate the IT teams working on Oracle implementations. Again, to protect their fragile little egos.

From https://www.quora.com/Whats-so-bad-about-Oracle-Whenever-engineers-I-know-say-Oracle-it-seems-to-mean-the-worst-place-to-work-and-you-should-never-do-that-Why-is-that

Oracle Cloud is an absolute nightmare. All of their IaaS and PaaS solutions are complete sht. Nothing works. Support does not exist. It is a leach that should be purged from the industry ASAP. I am a CCNP / RHEL / AWS Architect / Python 3 Developer / DataCenter & Cloud Architect / Senior Engineer with 15+ years of experience. If you do not have my qualifications don’t even think about launching your platform in Oracle Cloud. It’s a fledgling cloud running alpha code and at best in it’s infancy. You have been warned. Also shame on Gartner for reporting that Oracle Cloud was the most innovative, well executed cloud. Gartner has lost all credibility for me at this point. Oracle Cloud will sht on you, your reputation, your company, cost you millions, and all the while their “cloud success” engineers will belittle your team. Stay the F*CK away. RackSpace, AWS, Azure, and GCP are all viable alternatives.

I know one competent marketing guy, but he's leaving.

This culture extends throughout Oracle. Good job LE, projecting yourself throughout the company.

Each manager holds tightly to his own ego and his employees do the same. They bully and harass anyone who might have a better idea to get them to leave, then in some cases take the idea and present it as their own. They then lack the actual knowledge to implement the idea correctly and they end up with a lot of half-a--, half-developed crap that is not useful to anyone.

They do this because they are intensely insecure people, as all thugs are. They can't stand the idea of actually trying to work with an intelligent developer, because they deeply believe they won't measure up. They can't just accept that they don't know everything, ask questions like normal people, and learn from the person that obviously knows more than they do.

So they attack, belittle, harass, and sabotage the smarter developers instead. This they know how to do, and there are so many people like this at Oracle, they have a large pool of scumbags they can copy techniques from. No one in the upper management does anything about this type of harassment, I suppose they all got where they are by doing the same thing.

Groups outside of development are of little help, as they are corrupt in very similar ways. The marketing people are generally lazy and refuse to learn anything about the technology stack that is being sold. They want development to create one-button applications that they can demo to the customers without knowing anything other than where the one-button is. Actually lazy is a massive understatement to describe marketing. Again these people are wrapped around their egos. They cannot take a chance of actually learning anything, because they could fail and look bad. So, instead they prefer to learn nothing and BS their way around everything. Instead of thinking of innovative products, they look at what other companies are doing and try to copy as much as possible. This strategy will also end up too little and too late. They harass and belittle development, because they cannot come up with the one-button magic application that can never be written. They constantly complain about the impossible not being done, while they laze around doing and learning nothing.

Support is disgusted with the poor response they get from the thugs in development. Development closes cases with no comments when they don't want to deal with a problem. Good support people, no doubt leave, and the ones left, fake whatever they can get away with.

Send developers to the customer site to help, and they harass, insult and intimidate the IT teams working on Oracle implementations. Again, to protect their fragile little egos.

Sales is at the tail end trying to sell crap with no help from marketing or support. They need to meet quotas that are unattainable and consequently they lie and cheat customers in inventive ways, like the audit scams that are so well known here.

If you are a competent employee, you need to see the light, update your skills, and get the hell out of the Oracle mess.

If you are an investor, you need to understand that Oracle has no future. The cloud has failed because of the problems above. The only way Oracle could recover is to push the reset button and start over, and that will not happen. No one in the management is going to lay themselves off. The managers aren't going to lay their thugs off, because they are their protection. They lay off the smarter people and assume there will be more that they can abuse and use later on. That will come to an end, as those people understand where they are working and how they will be treated.

They had to pay an AI guy $6 million dollars to stomach working at Oracle. That's not a sustainable plan. The thugs who will harass this guy out of the company will not be able to do the work left when he's gone.
