Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

How are things in BI?

I escaped the Farm earlier this year with what was left of my sanity, for an entirely different career direction and didn't keep in touch with anyone from my old department (there was no time to get to know/talk to co-workers after the teams were reorganized)

Everyone was too busy being told to keep their heads down, work faster, make the impossible metrics. When we did have time to talk to each other, it was to complain about how awful it was there.

"No, we won't adjust the calendar expectations over the weekends when the office isn't open, you WILL be out of compliance every Monday!"

"Wait! You worked your butt off to get caught up so for once you won't be out of compliance if you finish six more calendars today? Stop what you are doing and go do someone else's work, we can't have you in goal or de-stressed!"

"You just did what you were taught/told to do last week? We'll that's wrong now, here's a write up"

"Hey! We're going to implement this new program. No, it's not done yet. Oh, we're going to train you on it, but it will all change a week after you get out of this training you wasted three days attending while your case load gets farther out of compliance, and then it will change again, part of it will be done in this program and part in this other program, well, unless it was reported on this date, Oh wait if it was reported on this date, that's entirely different."

Are people still leaving? Have they finally hired more BI Specialists? Will that stupid Mitchell program ever work properly?

It takes months to regain one's health after working in that environment.

I can't believe I did it to myself.

Well said. And, they tell you to work other people’s files (to not worry if your calendars and file notes get behind) to focus on everyone’s priorities they then turn around and write you up and fire you. Thinning the heard for office closures to reduce severance liabilities. No ethics. No loyalty. 30 year employee fired about a year shy of early retirement. Glad I am out and working on new career. Have to pinch myself at how much freedom and happiness I have not having my phone calls timed and being able to have normal human conversations. I loved my job but conditions got very unhealthy. Working on getting health back. After years of having to deal with work every weekend it is so nice to just relax and focus on family. To wake up Monday’s and not be out of compliance. Whoever dreamed up the two and three day goals (even on weekends) did not work in claims. Or was designed to get rid of employee intentionally. Celebrate life after SF. Good luck all.

It had to have happened this year (if it's an across the board thing). When I was still at the Farm, we were pissed that BI had the most complex claims that required the most work and we got paid the same as Claim Specialists in other departments.

I any event, there's not enough money in the world to get me to go back there.

Did anyone notice that on My Block they have openings for BI Claim Specialists and Propery Claim Specialists (fire?) I compare the one posted in Dunwoody, Ga and the other Atlanta, Ga. since they are in close proximity. To my suprise the BI specialist jobs paid $10K/yr more. When did State Farm start doing that?

And the crazy call center work hours (to take recorded statements on everyone else's claims and not get your own work done)...

No other company that I ever called to talk to made their BI Claims Specialists do that. All of their voice mail recordings listed normal business hours.

Oh yes, when we were buried with 150 complex claims at a time (many involving litigation which are nearly impossible to handle and keep up with metrics) we were told that we didn't have full inventories and that when we were up to capacity, that we'd all have 300 claims.

To heck with that noise!

Amen, I was told by a BI rep today that they are being told they are overstaffed! Really? People are jumping ship or retiring to keep their sanity. No help in sight!

A good number of BI Claims Specialists are on Xanax.

I lasted 8 months in complex PD tier 2 and not even 3 months in tier 1. Just an awful work environment with prison like conditions. I don’t know how they get away with this.
