Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Apple Layoff Board inactive for a reason

Speaking about the toxic culture at Apple, just look at layoff.com/apple and how inactive it is. Then compare it with the activity here. I’d rather work in a place with a so called Toxic environment rather than having no work and a company that Lays off as frequently as Qualcomm.

Doesn’t the inactivity there speak volumes ?

Apple is slightly more toxic. The 50% more pay is not worth it. You are giving part of your life and family time for Apple. Is 50% more pay worth it to you? If it is, then I'm sorry for you that you value money more. The bay area also s---s, why would anyone want to live there.

My suspicion is that @ovx is the only non-troll here as what he says is what i iniversally hear. Apple is just as toxic but at 50% more pay is worth it.

I have worked at both places.

Qualcomm is way way way WAY worse than Apple in terms of culture and work life balance. Much happier and healthier at Apple.

This is in the chip design area - can’t speak for software.

I left Apple after 5 years. Made lots of money off stocks and left due to the work expectations. I wouldn't recommend working there. No work life balance.

I would rather work at a company with a healthy culture where people are not being layed off. OP is making it sound like you have only these two choices: toxic culture or layoffs. Says a lot about OPs (lack of) intelligence.

the license practice is the root cause why qc is so degenerated today. Huge influx of cash as result of unfair practice nourish greed, corruption, complacency, laziness, nepotism and indecency inside the company.

In the lawsuit in Southern California filed by Apple, Qualcomm has alleged that at a conference in Idaho in 2015, a top Apple executive encouraged Samsung to "get aggressive" in asking South Korean antitrust regulators to pursue action against the chipmaker.

Cook and Cue are regular attendees of a media mogul conference held each year in Sun Valley, Idaho. The Apple executive in question, Qualcomm alleged, explained that a regulatory ruling on Samsung's home turf would be Samsung's "best chance" to force Qualcomm to change its licensing practices."

Tim Cook and Eddy Cue will be deposed in June. We will know soon who the real bully is.

Well, Qualcomm doesn't work well with bullies.

Why would that be ? Takes one to know one.

Apple is starving Qualcomm of what it legally owes and bad karma in making. Apple is the worst company on earth when it comes to dealing with suppliers and wants to keep all the profits to itself. by commoditizing and destroying suppliers. Well, Qualcomm doesn't work well with bullies.

iPhone is Apple's one trick pony with 70%+ revenue share. 5G will herald the decline of Apple. Write it down!!

Basically if you are a freeloader and good at politics, then stick to Qualcomm. If you are a hard working engineer, then move to Apple. Regarding attrition in Apple, people either quit after 1 year or they stay for long time. I know few people who moved out after first year and none of them wanted to put extra hrs while enjoying the big paycheck. I have worked in both places and I find Qcom environment far more toxic than Apple. Personally I would rather work hard than deal with politics!!

Truth and actions speak louder than words. Just ask your friends who work in A and they will tell you :)

No need to spend time to debate here.

Qualcom HR and execs on this board want you to think Apple work culture is toxic to curb the attrition of key Qualcomm employees. I joined Apple from Qualcomm 4 months ago. It was the best decision of my career.

After you have been at Qualcomm for so long, you start to think the crap going on around you is normal. Let me tell you that the level of politics, nepotism, the way hard-working employees are treated, the way good technical work is not valued, and inept exec team are NOT normal. There are better run companies out there. Lift your head up out of the sewage and map your way out to a better place. It's possible. Good luck

Also quiet due to strength of their NDAs. No one there wants to be sued by apple, just look at what theh are doing to qcom.

Apple board is quiet because

1) they are all busy working

2) they dont have mass layoffs and steady trickle of small, monthly layoffs in the background

#vsh, sorry to hear that you were affected. I know these things can uproot lives..so I am sympathetic..

But lets look at the silver lining..this is surely a blessing in disguise, as you got out with a payday.

As a lot of ppl seem to suggest QCA is not going to be around long..so when they shut this sh-- down..you probably will be somewhere making a stable payday not worrying abt this sh--.

Q is a great xmpny by SM RP SG is what is wrong with it..

Well this board remains active. Q has had 2 large rounds of layoff and its very clear there will be more.

In the meantime we all see the small 20-60 layoffs occuring from time to time. All of a sudden some folks are not on ph.

So of course, everyone is fearful for the odd meeting invite on a Friday afternoon from a previously unknown HR person............sorry, you are not needed anymore. Bye.

That’s some warped sense of humor you have my friend. Layoffs are entertaining for you ? Any idea what kind of turnoil they cause ? I was affected at QCA recently. RP and SG it seems also have a warped sense of humor.
