Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Sam's Club associates eligible for Walmart's college degree assistance

This would be good news if majority of us had any time left between family, work and other obligations to actually take on college. As it is, this sounds more like a way to avoid giving us a raise any time soon.

I am happy for those who will get to take advantage of this though, as few as they are.

Agreed offer a degree in your area at a area college what they offer is a joke. What they offering only 3% will take advantage.

This is good but could be a lot better. It would be great if they just covered a percentage of your cost at a school of your choice. Some people don't do very good with online classes.

The amount of time to get your degree will be determined by your

dedication to complete the courses.

Assuming you are near the top end of the pay scale ( 20.00) and work

40 hours , your 2% raise gives you

$832 increase for the year. Look at the cost of college in your area for the year. Walmart paying for your

education is like getting thousands of dollars per year. I live in NY state

and the cost of text books alone

can cost $125 - 350 per book

depending whether new or used.

This is fantastic for our associates.

Trzav.... If people want to get their degree , they will take advantage

of this program. The courses are done online. Even going to a state

college is going to cost around

$10,000 a year if not more. That is like getting a huge increase. Plus you will have your degree which will help you earn more money whether

you stay with Walmart or leave. Granted it is retail based , but that is the business you work in .

This is a golden opportunity for all

associates.

Interesting, so if I sign up for college while I work that means that it will be at least 6 more years working for a company that can not provide fair and clear direction, and I will be stuck here in my job for 6 more years making an additional 2% each year. Cleaver idea to get me to stick around and stop the bleeding of turnover
