Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Texas bound

Heard through the grapevine Corp Law moving to Texas then at some point Executive will be to after a few executives retire that don't want to go there. Makes you wonder the foot print that will be here in Bloomington within 5 years.

What would they do with the money they save?

Blow it on Systems projects that deliver nothing like they usually do!

When will people realize our pension is not that great! Yes it is something, but it doesn't do anything near what other pensions pay. If you retire early, prior to Medicare, your paying most of it for healthcare.

To save millions or maybe billions in payout over the next 50 years cutting expenses down to 30% has to come from somewhere better get your big boy boots on over the next six months

Unfortunately the pension benefit is a outdated financial benefit, I think they will freeze shortly I wish they would give us some heads up before they do it not like all these layoff plans

Good luck to everyone

Plan on a pension freeze it’s coming unless you are living in a hole

Given the number of times this rumor has been floated, I'd say you're the one living in an AHOLE.

OPINION: Wake up. It's over for many in Illinois. It can't continue the way it was and in order to adapt there is massive pain is coming. Figure at least a fifth of the total workforce will be reduced if not more when all said and done. Not all at once of course. Continued PR spin to avoid the pitchfork revolt. Get your head out of the sand. Companies play the long game. The next 6-8 quarters ahead are likely already planned. Salary churn will reduce the expense of the rest as higher salaried legacy human capital is squeezed out for cheaper labor with new titles for the same jobs with slightly different job descriptions. Or else they'll keep having you interview for your job to accept the "new" lower paying roles. Holding on tight in fear while desperately hoping you'll survive the next round ends badly. While the hubs outside of Illinois are in better business environments, that's no guarantee either. Ask the people who took the initiative to apply and relocate a year or so ago. A few I know did so voluntarily and just recently got cut anyway. At least there are better outside opportunities in Atlanta GA vs. Central IL. The company doesn't owe you or this town anything. It is going to do what it has to do in order to preserve and grow the margin. Or maybe everything is awesome and you'll be just fine.

@3uki I read an article last week in the Ft. Worth Star Telegram that stated that if the growth continues on pace that DFW could become the next LA. I hope that doesn't happen.

And Texas does not have the corrupt political landscape that anti business.. But we really don’t need more people here. We’ve got too many nuts moving in from California....,

Property taxes are less in Texas than Illinois. In fact, only New Jersey has higher property taxes than Illinois. Illinois does lead the country in unfounded debt and migration out though. Housing costs in Texas are also slightly less than national average. However, if you want a cheaply made box house in the middle of a cornfield Bloomington is the place!

Whatever savings you have with no state income tax is countered by skyrocketing property taxes and housing costs. Not to mention the traffic and congestion. I lived in DFW in the 80's and it was economical to live there. Now, not so much. Infestation of Yankees has caused to cost of living to escalate significantly.

Considering salaries, TX is a great place to be with no state income tax.

Is that the same grapevine that said MT was getting the axe at 10:00 AM on a Friday a couple of months ago?
