Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

TOTAL to cut 300 north east workers. Mark Lammey 24/05/2018, 12:55 pm Evening Express

Total intends to let go of about 300 workers in the north-east following its takeover of Maersk Oil. Meanwhile, BP, ConocoPhillips and Petrofac have all announced redundancy plans which could impact the region.

All of the above compaines are clients of ours in Aberdeen and we have been informed this week of various cancelled contracts as a result of these.

Is the Baker pension really as good as everybody says? I heard about a guy who after 20 years service left with a massive lump sum and 70k a year for life. Lives in his own villa in Marbella Spain like a king and is only 55.

SLB eliminating the gentleman's clubs was the death knell. Now everything is all business and professional with them. They are the worst.

Baker benefits are also much better than SLB including the pension + the expense account is great if u work in sales as I do. We get to take clients out wining and dining, gosto all the top premier league football games in a private plane + all expenses paid visits to gentleman’s clubs in different cities.

SLB stopped all that stuff years ago and only the very senior executive staff get to do that now. That was one of the top reasons for me to move across to Baker....

Better off with Baker is what I say

Guys - I also moved from SLB to Baker and get paid more and treated much better than SLB.

I am a field guy and not the only one

Some of you need to try SLB and u will find out it’s a terrible place to work with no respect for people. At least in Baker they treat me like a human being and not an asset to be treated like dirt.

So quit the fake horror stories

No one moves from schlumberger to BHGE in 10 years with BH we lost over 40 staff in Aberdeen to schlumberger with only 1 returning and he was useless.

Instant 20% pay rise with schlumberger, better pension, bonuses, rotation if offshore, car , they were even paid 5000.00 a year to cover a phone.

It's like night and day.

BHGE now is classed worse than weatherford that's have far we have sunk.

Sad times.

As an ex SLB manager I was nicely surprised to find out that my salary was higher when I came across to Baker. Even more surprised when everybody treated my like a king just because I came from SLB. Thing is I found Baker managers to be much more competent and smarter than SLB executive staff but it’s perception that counts and my bank account is benefitting from the excellent compensation I receive and all the perks too like company car, medical, etc

BHGE are still paying off in some regions. It's all kept very quiet and how they have been doing it from the start.

Cutting experience for trainees and graduates as so cheap but has back fired as lost so much work in the process.

The fact that schlumberger and weatherford are now making hundreds of millions and BHGE are still losing money says it all.

All other service companies are taking on permanent staff in every department only BHGE still cutting heads and using agancys as not enough work.

I saw a post (no seems to have been removed) that said BoD was hiring thousands. If true, BHGE can easily absorb these lost Total, BP and other jobs. What is the problem?

As an ex taxi driver myself and having worked for 25 years in Baker Aberdeen I have many thing to be thankful for to Baker:

  1. I own a detached and fully paid off house in Queens toad

  2. My wife and I both run Audi cars

  3. The kids went to a top private school in Aberdeen

  4. Travelled all over the world

  5. Great pension

  6. We were able to pay for both our daughters to have their wedding reception in the 5 star marcliffe hotel

  7. We own outright a penthouse in Puerto Banuis

Not bad for a loon fae Aberdeen who used to drive a taxi for a living!

I would highly recommend anybody to get into the oil industry in Aberdeen as the rewards are excellent even with the downturns.

Life at the end of the day is all about money and the happiness it brings you so enjoy it while you can!

I certainly have!

A sizeable bonus was paid to me for reaching cost cutting targets. OK it wasn’t very nice job firing so many people but it had to be done by specially in U.K. with all the fat there was there. So yes bonuses were very good even during the crisis.

A bit like how a butcher cuts the fat off the meat before selling it as a lean mean burger.
