Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

There is no long term opportunity at Qualcomm

The long view is very bleak at Qualcomm? What is the the long term opportunity (by this I mean product)? That is, what in the pipeline is so innovative and compelling to drive sales and revenue? The answer? Nothing. Other than marginally better gaming performance future products are marginal and people (the average consumer) will not pay premium for marginal innovation.

The solution? GTFO the first good chance you get....no need to panic yet but you have been warned! If you are waiting for Hana Plus success to buy a new Porsche you will be waiting a long, long time.

true by iPhone 8 and X are more luxury novelty status symbol than technology life changers. The next economic recession should decimate the tech sector unless something new and significant comes along.....IMHO

OP is master of the obvious.....there will be some market for 5G by early adopters but for most people 4G is more than sufficient. If you can think of one thing a 5G device will do better than a current 4G device please post here for discussion. Better gaming would be nice but will it support a $1,000+ device price? even the auto and IoT with current WiFi handover is more than sufficient.

Am I missing something? I really don't see a strong growth market for Qualcomm technologies. It's not horrible but moderate at best.

What are the thoughts of the anonymous blog browsing community? ;P

There is a long path ahead for cost cutters and those who want to 'drive efficiencies'; also anyone wanting to invent corporate speak and new fonts.

I saw this happen in my old company, it's classic. This company does not have the leadership to reinvent themselves. The only cure is to fire current leadership and get innovative mgt in place. Almost too late.

It is now official. Netcraft has confirmed: QC is dying

One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered QC community when IDC confirmed that QC market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming on the heels of a recent Netcraft survey which plainly states that QC has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we've known all along. QC is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last [samag.com] in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test.

You don't need to be the Amazing Kreskin [amazingkreskin.com] to predict QC's future. The hand writing is on the wall: QC faces a bleak future. In fact there won't be any future at all for QC because QC is dying. Things are looking very bad for QC. As many of us are already aware, QC continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.

All major surveys show that QC has steadily declined in market share. QC is very sick and its long term survival prospects are very dim. If QC is to survive at all it will be among Android dilettante dabblers. QC continues to decay. Nothing short of a miracle could save it at this point in time. For all practical purposes, QC is dead.

"Agreeable and a transparent licensing model,"

YEARS in the making and still no sight in end.

"I placed sell order at $60. Time to invest elsewhere."

Me Too. Out a $60 and off to a new job ASAP.

A non hostile business situation will help but there still is no “wow” product in the near or far term. Marginal innovation at best which will bring marginal profits.

I placed sell order at $60. Time to invest elsewhere.

Agreeable and a transparent licensing model, lawsuit settlement gloabally and full 5G implementation are all underway and provide tailwinds for stock. Next 12 months are critical.

I give it 3 years tops. To many chips that are just marginal improvements. Core has matured.

Non-core being shut down or sold off.
