Question about UG/EGD Merger

Does anyone have any insight on what the severance packages will look like after the OEB approves the merger? Will it be one month or one week per year of service?

The last reply seems very true - good stuff. I agree that these turds aren't plotting new ways to f--- us over, they just don't understand how to turn things around, and keep taking advice from consultants who've mostly never worked in a "real" company and have no clue how things actually get done. Reminds me of when I did my MBA... the people who had real world experience approached things very differently than the people who were coming out of the consultant world. There's a business textbook froofy way of doing things, which looks impressive to some, but is ultimately lacking substance. Enbridge corp does things by the textbook from what I can tell. They give managers... or people leaders or whatever lol... scripts for how to explain their misguided policies which are full of spin desguised as business language. Feels like they spend more time figuring out ways to put lipstick on pigs than the do actually trying to address the pigs...

I don’t think Enbridge is ruthless. Compared to Spectra and other companies I’ve worked for, Enbridge’s corporate staff appear to be mindless, thoughtless and clueless robots who simply do what they’re programmed by consultants to do or what they “think” AM wants them to do. They are on some kind of auto pilot without original ideas or regard for anybody or anything outside their bubble. I honestly think they forget that the oil and gas doesn’t flow by itself and customers and projects don’t just appear on our front door. I don’t think many in the shared services world know it takes real people doing real work to move oil and gas for our customers while keeping people and the environment safe in the meantime — and we’re doing it with shrinking staff and budgets. Corporate just pats themselves on the back for increasing Yammer posts and likes and continues to pump out this “endless” stream of information, notes, pre-notes, post notes, follow-up notes, updates, reminders, announcements, roll-outs, initiatives, programs, opportunities, events, requests, trainings, etc. (I could go on...). Who has time to read much less do all of this stuff — you can only hope either you or a friend catches the very few important nuggets of information buried in the gigabytes of data they send out. This stuff is becoming “the work” at the detriment of the “real work” and it’s unproductive... it’s amazing...everyone knows it and no one, including the ELT can stop it event if they wanted to. So we all keep trying to keep corporate happy because, to be honest, we’re scared we’ll be the next to lose our jobs if they think we’re uncooperative and not on board. No one (employees middle or upper management) has the courage to speak out so morale just continues to drop and people just continue to leave.... and I’d bet you that one of the Corporate Robots reading this is already dreaming up a program, communication plan and some kind of event to address this post (because they know it’s true) instead of even considering that there may be some non-value stuff they should be cancelling so people can simply do their jobs. Morale would improve if they would simply back off, hide and leave us alone until something important occurs. Of course they would never think of that because they don’t have the capacity to think along those lines — the consultant didn’t write a program for that. That’s why the painful truth is it’s not going to change until something changes at the top and they clean house....I honestly and sincerely believe AM truely wants something better — I also honestly and sincely believe AM doesn’t have a clue how to change it. His solution would be to assign it to someone who will only create another program.. Sad but true... Although l will soon be leaving to go to work for a competitor, I do hope something changes before it spirals further down.

I will say Enbridge compared to Spectra is simply ruthless. You should not expect any above the norm severance package. If you think there will respectful treatment as in past reductions of staff. You expecting unrealistic outcomes from Enbridge HR.

Think differently look over the new harmonized benefits. In over 88% of areas the lesser of legacy benefit is your new benefit.

Yup. I was escorted out of the building with my wallet and keys and had to come pick up my personal items after hours. You are not permitted to say goodbye to anyone.

As for taking Enb to court, you can do that if you want, but Enb has better lawyers and your package is held up until the case is settled. They only owe you whatever your jurisdiction allows and not a penny more. If you get more consider yourself fortunate.

You get walked out with your keys and wallet. They ship you the boxes.

Not sure what grounds you could negotiate or “take them to court” in this case, and would be interested to hear more insight on that. For the amalgamation, it seems like the motivation for giving us something above the legal minimum would be protecting themself from public backlash? Who knows. If it was UG people making the decisions I would have some trust that they aren’t going to be complete a--holes about the process, but Enbridge has done nothing to earn my trust so far. I mean, I don’t think they “owe” us anything and if I get laid off I’m not going to be hugely bitter about getting laid off... but I do hope they treat people with some dignity and that’s the part I have limited trust in Enbridge to do. I would guess a lot of near-retirement people will go, and I hope we can celebrate their retirement/careers with respect rather than having them walked out with a cardboard box, etc.

The 1 month package is over by Sept. HR said it will go to 2 weeks after sept. But some lucky folks are being held longer and will still get 1 month until they are not needed. The moral of the story is you have to negotiate it, or take it to a lawyer.

Al's Enbridge cares little about you once decision is made to sever you.

Expect 2 weeks at best

They will give enough to make it not worth your while of taking them to go to court.

I would assume we are looking at 2-3 weeks pay per year of service for the common people. In Ontario, the legal minimum is 1 week (with some conditions and fine print obviously). If they do give us 2, which I would assume is the most likely scenario, it will be kind of ironic since anyone who got severed due to incompetence in the past got a much better deal that that, LOL. Oh well...
