RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- Wells Fargo is closing its Reno phone bank at Terminal Way and Vassar Street, and those who work there can apply for jobs elsewhere in the bank business or take severance packages.
Wells Fargo spokesman Tony Timmons says there are about 800 total WF employees in the Reno area, and with this closure, that number will be reduced by "a couple of hundred." The call center answers questions for Wells Fargo customers on a variety of topics.
He says the closure date has not been determined and can't say if it will be weeks or months.
“It was strictly an operational decision,” Timmons says, and not an issue with the performance of the employees.
Timmons says with more automated options available, people are choosing those, and don't have to talk to representatives.
Wells Fargo will still have 21 branches in the Reno area, says Timmons, assistant vice president and communications adviser for Wells Fargo.
Timmons says in addition to separation benefits, the bank will offer career transition assistance and other benefits to the employees.
