Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Walmart is mediocre at everything

Walmart is mediocre at everything: Amazon is better at e-commerce. Target is better at store experience (and better style in terms of products), Aldi and Lidl and Dollar stores (and Costco, usually) are cheaper, HEB and Publix and Wegman's have better fresh grocery and service. Walmart associates work hard, but stores are understaffed. Why the hell would I want to even drive to pick up groceries when I have to order far in advance anyway and can just go to a nicer store and not have to fight lines? Why would I want pick up today when Amazon can deliver to my door tomorrow with Prime? The stores are ugly, most people don't like self-checkout, there are 20 checkouts and not enough associates.

Well Walmart used to have its scale and the fact that it was a one stop shop in their favor.

Now they are obsessed with cutting Skus again. So if they cut back all the assortment, I’ve got no reason to go there at all. I can buy most things at Aldi and then I’ll just go to Kroger for the rest of it.

Walmart is literally cutting into the one last leg that they had to stand on-their assortment. I’ve seen it across the store. First my shaving cream disappeared. Then my shampoo. Then I started noticing cleaning items missing. Then my grocery items.

It’s getting to where there’s no point going in. I can’t be the only one noticing this.

Is that the only thing that matters?

That’s part of the problem!

Walmart is caught up in a paradjm shift that no industry is ever prepared for. They're not going under, but we eill see some enormous changes.

Me? I 95% shop at dollar stores, thrift stores, Kroger, and farmer's markets.

Walmart I only go to after Sunday church for the remaining 5% and the social connection. :)
