Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Switch Insurance?

Since I am losing my job at SF I no longer have a loyalty for keeping my insurance there. I have 2 vehicles and homeowners. Thoughts on where to go?

Veteran here. I had a large fire loss as a SF employee. Got hosed on homeowners, auto was excellent, but felt I couldn't say anything because I didn't want it to affect my job (I work in Fire Company). That's when I decided to start looking. Moved everything but my motorcycles to USAA about 5 years ago. Short list of reasons: Better coverages on homeowners and auto while saving about $2K a year over SF.

We switched about six months ago. Yes our office is one of the affected offices but that was not the reason we switched. We decided to see how our overall claim experience was when we presented an auto claim in Dec 2016. From the beginning to bumps in Handling the claim and overall I would give it a 2 out of 10 experience. I don't mind paying a higher premium if I'm getting higher service. The service was poor from from the very beginning in reporting the claim (it was scripted and unpersonalized as if the associate didn't care), multiple transfers when calling in, hold times, I personalized service at Expess, etc. But the kicker was the inconveniences if we opted not to go select service...to drive over 25 min to have a SF estimator inspect during hours of 9-2 ( well we couldn't do that because there wasn't capacity to take time off ) so opted the pocket agent app which way underestimated our vehicle damages only at 1/4 dollar amount of the damage. My agent volunteered to intervene which helped, but could not rectify the over all claim experience that took a few months.

We have been long time loyal customers with SF. But given the type of service we received and also trying to cut our expenses with the upcoming closure, we had to do what's best for us. We have two homes three autos and a personal articles policy by switching to Farmers ...we save 1200 a year with better and higher liability limits 250/500 with them. Unfortunately recently hit a deer so filed a complaint claim... 10/10 experience from the beginning and ease of reporting the claim, no hold times, caring associates...and claim settled within 1 1/2 week from date of loss to 5 day repair at shop.... It was the service that I used to receive when State Farm was the Cadillac of insurance. No longer do we pay Cadillac premiums for poor service. Unfortunately pain specialist and associates have been telling management for the last few years and they no longer want to hear and wonder why so many policyholders are leaving. Wake up SF.

Since JD Powers ranked State Farm 6th overall in auto claims service, maybe they can persuade the 903,000 auto policy holders we lost in 2017 to return.

Claims satisfaction after a customer goes through Express handling, is goodbye State Farm customer and hello new insurance carrier. That is what you get for a $9.50 hour job..............................

I am concerned not for just me but also my family and friends. In the past, I could recommend SF with confidence. Now, things are just too crazy. I just do not have confidence in the company. I usually recommend: USAA, AMICA, GEICO. They end up saving lots of money, their claims service is easier, and the service has been great. I am so sad to see how far we have fallen in such a short time.

So, Tipsord is now officially worried about this thread and has unleashed his PR peeps on it? Christ, now I've got to go dig up all the metrics that show how much State Farm s---s at customer service and claims these days.

Thanks a lot, a--holes.

It's Sunday. Don't you guys have better things to be doing? Like spending time with loved ones?

Actually, according to independent analysis by JD Powers SF ranks very high in customer satisfaction in property claims. It is 4th from top and the top 2 are Amica and Chubb which few people can qualify for. In auto SF according to JD Powers ranks 6th much above average. Also, I just read that SF is lowering auto rates in Illinois. I am not employed by SF, I just switched from Progressive to SF. Progressive nearly doubled my rate after my son had a 400 dollar claim. Which is why I have been conducting research.

I switched to Geico in 2014 and saved $1,200 per year. Last month I switched to Progressive due to a statewide increase by Geico. I'm still saving 1,200 per year.

I work in fire company and when I bought my last house I shopped the market when SF came in at almost 3x other quotes. I asked for a copy of the Traveler's policy to review to make sure I wasn't buying an ACV policy or something that was severely lacking. The policy was much easier to read, there wasn't 20 endorsements that went along with it, and the only major difference was ALE was limited to a percentage (which in my opinion SF needs to roll that out on the new HO policy sooner rather than later) and food loss was subject to a $500 limit. Policy was very clean, provided the same property coverages and was simplified for a fraction of the price.

USAA is a superb insurer. They remind me of the old State Farm back when we were number 1, profitable, and something to be proud of.

I was among the last people in our group of coworkers to pull all their insurance. Most of us went with USAA if you're a veteran, or Travelers or Amica if you aren't.

Check out the top rated companies in JD Powers. We used to be in the top 3 all the time, but that was a number of re-orgs ago...
