Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Voluntary layoffs?

Anybody here knows if voluntary layoffs were ever offered by Follett?

This company has changed so much (for the worse, of course) that I am trying to find ways to leave for the first time in fifteen years. I know there are no layoffs coming for at least a few months, but when they do, is there any way to volunteer for one?

I really want out, but I'm also scared that if I broadcast that fact, they'll decide to wait me out.

If they offered an early retirement package there would be nobody left in IT

It's called resigning. Do it and any money they may want to give you to go away will be withdrawn. Moreover, they will try to entrap you into resigning, abandoning a job, refusing reassignment, etc. Finally, they'll pay a lawyer much more than they would have paid you, just to not pay you. The are bad people who are also bad business people. If you're near retirement, hold your breath and finish you days (how miserable is that!). If you're not, volunteer to find another job on Follet's dime.

You are in the enviable position of being master of your own destiny. Do your job well and you are guaranteed to be cut in the next wave of layoffs. Develop a "look at me" attitude while displaying incompetence, laziness and entitlement and you are almost guaranteed to be promoted.
