what is he smoking??????

"..Oracle founder Larry Ellison said Oracle will beat Amazon in the cloud by releasing over the next few months a sweeping set of "self-driving" cloud solutions that Ellison claims are simply beyond even Amazon's ability to match..>>

Actually LE said that Oracle wil release in the next few months the promised autonomous cloud apps (announced many months ago, nothing really available until now) with which he is sure Oracle will reach and surpass AWS. He didn't say that Oracle will beat AWS in the next few months (still not so old and stupid to do something like this).

That said, even this is a totally unrealistic opinion, unless LE is talking about a >10 years timeframe. In fact this is give or take the market share pie between the major players

AWS is stable (in a growing market) at 57% , Oracle is decreasing (again, in a growing market) from 4% to 3%. Unless LE intend to buy Microsoft or Google, it is impossible for Oracle to beat AWS in the foreseeable future.

Oracle is competing with the White House for who can put out more nonsensical, unbelievable garbage and oracle marketing is winning hands down. How LE you’re beating DJT, you must be so proud of yourself. I mean it’s such an accomplishment! Wow!

LE wealth is tied up in oracle stock, he can and does borrow agains it but he cannot sell, as that would crater the stock, so what does he do, he makes up lies about how great oracle is and the terrific products it’s developing. At his age, it’s no longer about the long term, it’s about keeping the company afloat for a little longer so he passes away before trbcompany does. Investors who believe in him and own oracle stock are dumb--shoe laces.

I really don't believe that Oracle will ever have "faster-cheaper-and-more-secure" software than any of the companies that are years ahead of them. I don't think Oracle has the development skills necessary for such a change and hiring college grads is not going to help, if you don't have the people to train them to do the work. Kids that come out of college know some basics, but web skills are not generally taught in college. They have to learn in the workplace and I don't think that Oracle has skilled people in the cloud area to teach them.

So Oracle is going to build a Cloud that leverages machine learning as the competitive differentiation against AWS? Another company already has a Cloud like that, is considered one of the top Cloud providers, is growing much faster than Oracle and is typically less expensive than the competition (and certainly Oracle).

The only thing real avenue LE that to compete is to try to use fear, uncertainty and doubt to get existing customers (i.e. of database and ebusiness apps) not to move to the competition. While the database is the top tier option for large scale OLTP use, it is overpriced and alternatives are increasingly "good enough". Apps, other than NetSuite, are having a hard time competing. Three bulk of the rest of Oracle's software is mostly bloated, legacy stuff.

The one thing LE has always done "well" is market and use his hubris to display confidence in the face of superior competition. He is playing the same game again. The problem this time is that he can't buy out his competition to find a way into the market as all the other major players are significantly larger than Oracle. He misscalled the move to Cloud and now is stuck having to try to find a way to stay afloat until the next technology shift comes along.
