Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Town Cars outside of Houston office

Black towncars parked outside of the Houston office this morning. Too early to be airport transfers (would just go from home), so can only mean one thing...

Yep, best to not let Enbridge know how you personally feel. They are very protective of their image and will go to great lengths to punish those who don't keep up the illusion. I don't even work for Enbridge, but was overheard by one of their minions when I mentioned to someone else that, based on an article I read, Enbridge is not well thought of in Michigan after the oil spill. I was at a conference, so the minion was able to get my name, reported me to their management, and they called my boss and insisted that I be reprimanded. I didn't have a negative view of Enbridge until that happened.

Our group had a meeting with HR lady to give our honest feelings about how things were going. I said a few things. 6 weeks later I meet her again. At our off boarding meeting.

Keep your mouth shut.

Dude, can’t believe you were laid off due to yammer. I saw the conversation but know such a topic is boiling hot water and chose not to participate. There’s a sitcom called “better off ted” where he works for an evil corporation. There are many similarities and maybe you will find a laugh. Good luck.

Do not participate in conversations about employee morale, either in meetings or on Yammer. I was lured into such a conversation, thinking it was safe. It was not. I was laid off two weeks later, and told that I was too outspoken for the current climate. Enbridge only wants docile employees. If you want to keep your job, don’t speak up.

I'm working on finding something else. I will continue to do my part, but I am tired of this mess. Good luck to those that wish to stay.

It is so very sad when those left want to move on and yet we are left feeling like we have a looming wrecking ball about to hit. Yammer conversation on employee morale which the ELT encourage input....It isn’t a safe culture where people feel they can speak up or even state the poor leadership and secretive culture is the biggest engagement zap! We are left assuming the worse and distracted from adding value let alone descretionary effort. What a sad situation on all fronts. Come on Board- step in before things get worse!

Nah, towncars are too expensive. They'd send us all off in an uber or bus pass if it saves a buck.

I was layed off a year ago. When I look back on the two or so months previous to that fateful day, I see that all the signs were there. My PL began surreptitiously reassigning my work, he didn’t ask about my IDP, he sent a younger colleague to a meeting I normally would have attended. Then, about a week before, certain senior people started giving me strange looks. Looking back, it all added up.

I falter with my swipe pass = I wonder.... PL doesn’t return email = I wonder.... New face in the hallway = I wonder....

And this is since the first round....

If there was more transparency, people wouldn’t be living in fear. They made this environment.

It’s come down to, “She looked at me differently today. I must be next in line to be laid off.”

There are always signs, and the black cars are one of them.

Of course nothing happened. Are we really down to, “oooo.... spooky cars! We’re all fired!”?
