---Austin commute times getting worse

those familiar with downtown Austin, know that current freeway system in Austin is a mess and in top ten list of most congested in the nation-- just look at the Oracle campus location on the map, and you'll see to get 10000 people to that campus is harder than San Francisco to Redwood shores..

maybe a few green 'Class of' kid fall for the opening ceremony..but for those forced to transfer..watch out..it s---s..

Oh yeah, Austin traffic had been getting progressively worse. The city government and metro transportation agency have generally taken the approach that, “If we don’t build more roads everyone will hop on their bikes.” Not that there are decent/safe by me lanes! Couple that with the fact that Austin is an incredibly sprawling city and you have a recipe for gridlock.

Within the past year a one lane each way variable toll system opened on Mopac (Loop 1), one of the two main north-south highways (along with I-35, which if I’m

not mistaken consistently ranks one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the country as it passes through Austin). The Mopac toll lane project went over budget and over timeline — by like 2-3 years?

And the public transportation “system”? It’s laughable. The commuter rail is ONE line and runs on existing track. Some of the rail stations don’t even have parking.

Only 200-something apartments in that Azul complex adjacent to the new Oracle building. Maybe some of you can just sleep in your cars parked in the free Oracle parking spaces and shower at the office. Good luck, Cloud Kids!
