Eventually the company will have only a few “mega call centers” The Houston center was cut and other centers will follow. Houston could of been a mega center but their results and attendance did not help them. Rumor has it the company is opening up a new center with over 400 reps at a lower rate of pay once the current Houston office closes. Not sure how true that is.
Call center jobs are being outsourced to Europe and India. American workers cost too much... Why pay you so much when they can hire 2-3 workers for the same cost in emerging markets? Yeah the customer may be hate it but they have no choice since every company is outsourcing.
Not that I doubt the comments but doing some checking I found the Management group doing the First Net work is all management, Wonder where the union is also.
They are also doing all the field work including the equipment setup for the new First Responder Network. they drive the trucks and set up they cell cites. ALL MANAGEMENT. No craft
The management group doing the Cell work is from the technical support group. they were called ATS but to hide the work they changed the name to something else.
Where is the union
Anyone want to pick out the union reps reply? Wake up people the union only cares about dues.
Ask what the union president makes a year and then ask why.
ATT is going to drop ALL field jobs very soon and go to all wireless units with customer self install.
They quietly did an experiment in a few states and decided it was great.
Ask why they now have a management group doing cell site support and why the union has not stopped the intrusion,
its all good news from corporate.

if your job is not needed then...
What acquisition center needs the Sipp volunteers?
My office came from retention last year now we do acquisition yet are down to 50, we just got offered sip needing at minimal 15 volunteers I’m fearing we will be next. Best of luck
Had. “Houston we had a problem.”
Common mistake.
The provisions for layoff are in the contract. People should already know what the deal is prior to any announcement.
I would check the internal staffing system for any job openings in other departments. But, you might need to be test qualified for other openings. I made it a point to be test qualified for many other jobs that were available in my area(s).
There should be a national transfer arrangement to transfer to another contract, like Wireless or Legacy T. Or if you are Legacy T, then Legacy S. Long shot, but maybe there is an opening in Houston.
In any event, fill out all recall paperwork and perfect your eligibility for rehire. I know several people who swore they would never work at AT&T again who subsequently was rehired.
The contract gives opportunities. But it takes two to tango. The employee must take action to take advantage of all opportunities.
The nice thing about the current economic environment is, unemployment is very low.
This is crazy! What GM is Houston under? Isn’t there an office in Austin and Dallas too?
Transfer to San Antonio, it's the fastest growing city in Texas!!!
It's only a 3 hour drive if you want to visit family and friends.
4 options are better than none. Some people get the door as the only option.
What makes you think that you are entitled to have a job in a city where you want to be? Move with the work or get a job locally.
The Union is right there with HR, but if someone thinks the union will prevent this from happening, is not seeing properly.
The Union decided to close the call center? Wow I don’t know they could make those kinds of decisions, learn something new every day.
Basically your options are part time in COR, take an integrated Solutions Consultant role, transfer to San Antonio or take a surplus 🤷🏻♂️
What union? Union leadership only protects thier own jobs.
