is three months too much?

2 weeks, otherwise you take the chance of them getting rid of you early since you’ve shown you are not loyal.
You also don’t want to tell them in case your offer falls theough.
Not if you are stupid.
Speaking from experience. Giving a long notice to management can remove your possibility for a package. If management does not know you are planning to leave anyway your chance of getting a package will go up.
@gjl It‘s not „the norm“ in Europe, but a part of the employment contract. So OP‘s question wouldn‘t even come up there.
Depends on the position and the location.
In the US I can see why you’d think 2 weeks was sufficient. In Europe and some Asian countries, 1/3/6 months is the norm.
You must be really cool with your boss.
Why three months ? if you have a offer, 2 weeks should suffice sister.
