Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

PTO

There is NO capacity for anyone to take PTO, but is anyone else hoarding their PTO? Because none of us know who will be next on the chopping block? Im not going to take any time off, as I may need it to look for another job if/when I am handed a QTD...This is what our daily lives have become.

Previous poster raises a damned good point. I would think it's probably not legal to not allow you to take vacation days that you've earned, provided the prohibition is long-term and impossible to work around.

Consult a lawyer.

Would love to see this company get stuffed.

PTO PAID TIME OFF which is time you earn but you can’t take off because there is NO Capacity to take your earned time. If you take your earned paid time off unplanned due to sickness, emergency or if you submit a 5 day vacation and they only approve 4 days due to “capacity’” issues, you get rewarded with points. Sure you can submit a request to your management to over ride but those are seldomly approved. Even that process is inconsistent. Get enough points for taking your earned days off, you are in jeopardy of losing your job. Is that even Legal? Let’s see what the Labor dept has to say?

What are your thoughts

I think it is taxed at the highest rate, which I’m thinking is 38%. I might not have the percentage right but the main point is it gets taxed severely.

what is the tax rate when they cash out PTO? I thought I heard it is much higher rate than even the severance.

I would love to hoard it but lately, taking PTO here and there is all I can do to stay sane

Once I was given a QTD, I hoarded my PTO. I didn't use a single day during my last 6 months of employment. I tried to submit a PTO request once, and my manager actually rejected it (I still took the day off, but didn't pay for it per se). I guess he felt sorry for me.

In any case, the extra 15 thousand dollars has helped a lot, especially since they taxed my severance check harder than I thought they would.

The only problem with that is not being able to acru any additional once you’ve reached that magic number.
