Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

20 years of service equals layoff

20 years of service at QC seems to be the kiss of death. Doesn't matter how great of an employee you are, 20 year veteran and your time is limited. I've lost dozens of my friends this last round..All 20 plus year folks and exceptional performers.

I'm sure I'll get caught up in the next round due to this standard.. Our CIO made it very clear that there is no such thing as job security.

Posted by @SRfM7Zt-ilj. Hit the nail on the head when it comes to Qualcomm layoff policy (unofficial, of course.)

One should move to a small company once you are 50. These fancy companies will never you retire with 20+ yrs of service. And be happy with a smaller compensation package at the small company.

I'm a 20+ year engineer who was laid-off in 2015. The problem with 20 year vets is they're generally high-titled, highly compensated, and... tired.

I was over-titled, over-paid, and was definitely not earning my compensation in my last year or two. I knew/know many others who I would consider the same. In fact, I would say the majority of the engineers with 20+ years at QCOM are producing less than those paid roughly half to two-thirds of what they make.

So I'm in agreement with targeting the 20+ year veterans. Great business decision IMHO. Many of them are volunteers by the way. A years severance pay is quite a generous parting gift for those ready to retire.

Yep. All true. Hit by the layoff in 2015 after 21 years along with many other long-timers. Was told "you don't have the skill set for future jobs"...although I was doing work that I had to train my co-worker to do. Karma's a $%&% though cause those 2 former directors just got axed. Guess they also lacked that "skill set"...LOL
