Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Layoff meant for Success or Failure?

I am not sure if people who are laid off were selected based on criterion meant to grow rather than derail growth of Q.

Are these layoff fair and unbiased without any favoritism? What is the general opinion in SD? Wondering if Layoff will really pay off?

I receive a 6/7 on my last performance review and was notified last week. Being recognized for quality work didn't make a difference.

20 years of service at QC seems to be the kiss of death. Doesn't matter how great of an employee you are, 20 year veteran and your time is limited. I've lost dozens of my friends this last round..All 20 plus year folks and exceptional performers.

I'm sure I'll get caught up in the next round due to this standard.. Our CIO made it very clear that there is no such thing as job security.

A lot of favoritism!

Lots who were favoured along the way are exactly the ones who remained. Some of them did not deliver anything special in their performance.

Some of the extremely hard working people are gone. They were not on the "favourites" list.

I even got the feeling at times that the more you strived to do the best, the more you were disliked. With no results in the end. All while watching those who took it easy being put on the pedestal just because they were symphetized by the boss.

Sure, they are some expections. There are still some good quality workers selected to stay. But favoritism stinks and is prevalent and obvious.

Of course, managers use layoffs as an opportunity to get back at people and take revenge. I know people whose work far exceeded expectations and have consistently delivered but they were let go because the manager didn't like them.
