Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Perhaps Qualcomm could have saved $1B elsewhere if they weren't so greedy

Let's see here:

2018 Try to save $1B by laying off thousands of employees

2018, $1.2B fine by European regulators for anti-competitive practice

2017, $774M fine by Taiwan for anti-trust violations

2016, $865 fine by South Korea for violating anti-trust laws

2015, $975M fine paid to China for anti-trust violations

Ongoing, $1B lawsuit by Apple

SM says this is part of regular business. But every year it's been $1B fines for dirty tactics. Well, maybe thousands of employees wouldn't be laid off if QC played nicer? Comments?

Millions on rebranding and SM gains $65M in December. Yes we could have save some jobs.

And whose brilliant idea was it to spend millions of dollars on the worst "rebranding" campaign in recent history?

QUALCOMM to Qualcomm.. that could have saved a lot of good talent. As unlikely as it is, I hope the people who green lit that project are paying their dues.

They said the same thing in 2015. Did that drive value? $53.73 was the stock price on Sept 1, 2015. Value DESTROYED is more like it.

Hi, I'm undergraduate who is curious about Qualcomm's condition now. As it said it is lay off, they need to cut 1500 more man power to save money. However, at the same time it keep posting new job? So what is the reason for fire and hire in the same time?

As you know, in January we created an investor presentation that outlined our path to move Qualcomm forward and drive value. This included a commitment to increase our operating performance and reduce costs. Unfortunately, workforce reductions are a necessary aspect of that plan, and this week we notified the majority of employees whose positions were impacted.

The decision to impact employees is never taken lightly, and the Executive Team and I recognize how this affects our colleagues and friends who are an important part of our teams and workplace, as well as their families.

As such, we have taken great care in our approach to this action, by carefully reviewing and assessing business and resource needs throughout the organization, and by ensuring that employees receive a supportive severance package and access to career transition resources.

Please provide your full support to your colleagues during this time, and help ensure that everyone upholds our culture of care and respect. While this isn’t easy for an organization to undergo, it’s important to remember that the overall expense reduction effort is a critical component in positioning Qualcomm so that we can maintain our leadership position, expand into new areas and continue to invest in our key growth opportunities.

I will share more information with you at next week’s All Hands Meeting. In the meantime, I thank you for your support and understanding as we take these difficult actions.

SAying they looked at noon headcount costs reductions first to save $1B implies the employees are needed to run the business. This man's they just fired 1,500 qualified employees that were needed to run the business. If that is not accurate then it means Qualcomm over hired or lost business. None of the reasons is supportive of a top notch executive team.

Talking about how to avoid 1B to save lives is like punching a dead horse. To put it simply, business decision makers dont care. If revenue - cost != profit, then they will use any method available to make it happen. By licensing/sales practices or slashing jobs.
