Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Managers Conference?

Is it still on or not? By now they would have flights planned. Requested aorport info and roomate info. Cutting it kind of close if it's still on. 2 mos!

And really the obly reason I am concerned is because I was planning to extend my stay for vacation with my my wife, but id like to book a flight for her soon.

The team is down in FL right now planning your conference. Nice hotel nice meals for them. What's being spent on the preplanning would be a tidy raise for some managers.

The amount spent for the upper management to go is staggering. They get suites and much better perks. If they reduced there, LOTS of people could have raises. But that isn't the Follett way. Every single director and above gets their own room. So do the math.

Make sure your roomie doesn't bring any extra guests into room. Could be awkward.

I feel sorry for whoever gets stuck with me, my mild insomnia, major snoring and sleep talking. Going to be one awkward week.

In the past conferences were pretty great. Evenings included Red carpet entrance to a formal dinner, night out at Universal, entertainment, lots of social time-even open bars at some events.

Days were long but informative.

You would catch up with home office folks that you knew, and they knew you.

Now, all that is changed. Moral is different, managers are not interested in attending since they know they are just talking out their a--hole. We no longer know any upper management since they come and go so quickly. Hard to shake the hand of the ones that treat us do poorly. Also hard to attend an event that is costing the company money when they continue to hold out on raises.

I was on committee for last conference. You share a room with someone or pay a premium to get a single. Limited # of singles available. All upper mgmt gets their own room plus anyone on planning committee. No way this conference will be as good as the red carpet one. Less money raised from vendors to fund it, as many of those vendors are now belly up. They'll make it look nice on a cheaper budget. And maybe a cheaper Disney hotel. Less snacks limited food options.

The company does the national meeting very well. Nice dinners, educational, get to meet other managers etc. The last dinner of the conference is a formal event and fun. One year they had a red carpet event and the execs stood on the side and applauded while the managers walked in - showing appreciation for what we do. You will leave the conference thinking that maybe.....things will get better. Time will tell.

Yes, I have been to at least 4 of these over the past 15 years. You share a room, or pay extra to get your own room. Unfortunately the cost to get your own room is expensive live 150.00 per night.

At the one last year, they allowed you to pay an extra supplement to NOT share a room. You better believe I paid it! This was just a few regions, though. With the whole country coming, I 'm not sure if they even have enough rooms at the place in Florida for people to have singles?

If it's true I'm sure Senior Management follows the same rules!

Sure...

is that true, they make you share a room? That can't be true. I just asked all of my personal friends that travel for work, to conference's, etc.

None of them share rooms. This can't be true.

Any seasoned managers care to clarify?

You should appreciate you get the opportunity to hear the senior leadership speak about all the great things they have planned.

What better way to build teamwork and camaraderie? Those folks in the tower really know how to drive the company forward!

I have not been to a conf. yet, there has not been one, but I heard they make you hate a room? Are you F-ing kidding me??? Do they assign you a roomie? I have met people in my region just a few times at regional meetings. I am not comfortable sharing a room with a stranger.

If this is true I am NOT going. So inappropriate to put us with strangers.

Yup. We planned that last one perfectly. Good luck with this new reduced group. If it happens you sure won't be able to extend your time! That's not feasible anymore with staff cuts. You'll be lucky if you're not booked at the Motel 6 in Kissemee.
