Thread regarding Follett layoffs

What is Follett's reaction to publishers transitioning to Direct to Student rental?

1) Publishers are doing direct to student rental?

2) If we ignore it we will be fine

3) Buy old editions and hope stores will order them.

"Follett and Barnes and Noble to go bankrupt so all sales will be via Amazon or direct to student." So what's the down side?

Publishers are doing all kinds of end arounds and cutting side deals with individual faculty members, departments, and even the purchasing department, in clear violation of our contract. When this is pointed out to the client, they make no move to stop it because they know Follett won't do a damn thing, like file a lawsuit for breach of contract. Renewals are so tenuous nowadays that they don't want to do anything to muddy the waters. So they sit there and take it while the publishers laugh all the way to the bank. They get their sales to us and their sales direct to students, reduce our ability to return books, and play the long game, which is to wait for Follett hand Barnes and Noble to go bankrupt so all sales will be via Amazon or direct to student.
