Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Are you really that unemployable?

Reading this board makes me think that HPE desperately needs to clean out its ranks.

If there is so many otherwise unemployable people working here (and only people who are completely unemployable can fear layoffs in this economy,) then it really is time to show them the door.

Seriously, even moderate skills will land you a replacement job right now, so there is no place for panic unless you literally have no skills - and in which case, you are a burden to HPE.

Almost makes you want to go home and slap your parents for telling you that going to college was so important. I said "almost". Well, now you're undereducated, overqualified, and will be perceived as a threat. Gee, thanks HP. I used to have such fond memories of the place. NO LONGER. Now the question is whether I really dumb down my resume or not? Lying on your resume to FIND a job that pays you less? What have we arrived at here?

Did you ever think that maybe people believe that they are unemployable BECAUSE they have been TOLD SO BY EMPLOYMENT AGENCIES. Hullo? Maybe you will BE unemployable because they don't want HPE's new service following their old employees into their new jobs where they can make another FOOD SNACK out of their company? We ain't that stupid honey. So, YES YOU HAVE made them unemployable. I couldn't get a job as a personal shopper, customer service, NOT EVEN DELIVERING TELEPHONE BOOKS. That doesn't PAY the mortgage or put food on the table. So, you really HAVE managed to sever these employees from gainful employment. I tried it. Only the companies that are willing to be acquired are going to hire you in your SAME FIELD. That, or you find a company so far out of the industry that HPE CAN'T acquire them because it makes NO business sense for them.

The thing I miss about working at HPE was that I got paid well to do next to nothing.

It took all of two weeks for me to find a new gig when I got the layoff notice.

But I really and truly miss having free time.

IMHO, the reason we had so much free time is because the sales force at HPE uses storage as a crutch. It's easy to sell, so that focus on selling that, not software.

"got back-stabbed under HPE's "forced distribution performance reviews", which encourage you to make others look bad, so that YOU can look good"

I do not miss that, not at all. If anything, it's been a real disincentive to ever come back, even when times were better than now.

OP is right on target. We must remember this layoff website is populated by losers who can’t compete in the real world. Malcontents and whiners come here to gain sympathy. Well guess what... winners win, losers lose, and the world just keeps spinning.

Ummm ... pre-sales SE's also get whacked.. Certainly not immune. How's your quota working for ya.. Let me guess.. harder and harder to make the numbers. Well it's just gonna get harder.. nobody is interested in "a flavor of the month" company which HPE has turned into.

Hey all

I worked at Hp a long time , yes before the split

I left to get on the sales side as a se.

The se position is what will continue to flourish

Unfortunately not the fe/ ce position

Consulting is here to stay not swapping parts

I am not downplaying the fe position rather technology did it

Pocs are done by se’s as well in most cases by the same person

The need for ces unfortunately will continue to diminish, don’t blame Hp blame advancements in technology

The one thing to blame Hp for is not forcing all of you to see the light but it’s also your responsibility to see the light

On another note no company has asms

They have se’s and sa’s

Has an asm ever worked a rfp or do they know what that is is a better question

Age discrimination does exist for sure but if you are skilled and you kept yourself in approachable looks, yes that matters as well, don’t kid yourself you will be fine

Take the time now to focus on a new skill, get out of the bandbox you have existed in , if you do you will thank yourself

Stop b--ching and help yourself

OP is rude but CEs can get jobs based on experience. CEs don't compete with H1-Bs or "early career" candidates.

Job experience really counts with this type of job as well as customer skills. Small resellers, cloud providers, new system vendors, hyper scale datacenter corps. as well as a few cloud vendors are all hiring.

I think people should just vote with their feet. Complaining is obviously not going to change what HPE is doing. In fact, it is pretty clear that they decide to focus on selling boxes, rather than providing good customer service.

So if you disagree with that direction, and you feel they are treating you horribly (all very justifiable, i may add), leave. Particularly if they pay you below market, you should be able to get something better.

I would agree it is easy to get a job in today's market IF you are not over 50 years. Age discrimination is alive and well, even for those who are well-prepared with top notch and up-to-date skills. This is particularly true in tech.

"Seriously, even moderate skills will land you a replacement job right now" You mean like landing a job at Unisys? Half the pay, half the benefits, starting over with two weeks vacation instead of four. Perhaps longer commutes or putting your house up for sale to move to another state? Lay-offs are not fun. At one time, HP told me to move to Rio Rancho or find another job. I started pounding the pavement looking for work. Going to job interviews, etc.. Very stressful! No way was I going to move to Rio Rancho NM. I got "lucky" and landed another position within HP. By the way, HP never fulfilled their promise to NM on hiring quota.

Back a few years ago a company let its employees go as well and just like HPE most of its employees were NOT incompetent. There are many reasons why employees are let go and when it comes to layoffs it is rarely the employees who are at fault. Particularly when the layoffs have been going on for years. The other company, you may have heard of it, was named Enron. Although as far as we know the executives at HPE aren't guilty of criminal offenses they may be immoral, unethical, greedy, incompetent or unable to resolve the issues set in motion by their predecessors. Or perhaps all of the above.

Only a certifiable troll or ignoramus could say what OP says here.

Even if you are A. Einstein and T. Edison combined, and a rocket scientist AND a brain surgeon combined, at HPE today, you DO have to run scared of layoffs! Moving to a new city isn't done at the drop of a hat, for many of us, you know...

HPE is a sinking ship; there WILL be more layoffs, including layoffs of rocket scientists and brain surgeons! Trust me on this! Run-of-the-mill servers are over-engineered and over-priced, and going obsolete in 2 years max. Networking (Aruba) and (newer, NAND-flash-based) storage are chugging along semi-OK, but they cannot make up for all the other money-losers. "The Machine" is over-hyped and doesn't have hardly any customers lined up. "Synergy" new blades and bladed infrastructure just BARELY pays for labor and parts, plus a SMALL profit above that... NOT enough to cover R&D costs, over-paid mis-management, facilities, and the time-value of investment money. HPE longer-term future is BLEAK, so expect the bleeding to continue unabated!

"...and only people who are completely unemployable can fear layoffs in this economy,"

...

Says either a troll or an Emperor Nero minion!

No manager EVER made a mistake? No one (who tried to be an humble team player and treat others the way he or she would like to be treated) EVER got back-stabbed under HPE's "forced distribution performance reviews", which encourage you to make others look bad, so that YOU can look good?

...

What planet are you from, buddy?
