Yet another sad disappointing round of lay offs and the crazy thing is, there is no logic in those that were let go. We had some very, very, very smart intelligent contributing and "hard working" people let go. I have watched over the many years the change in management and I have to say it has been extremely disillusioning. There was a time managers actually managed their direct reports but know it is more about managing up. And we dare not ruffle the waters. It used to be that to be a "hard worker" with the convictions to help the company and others succeed was a sought after skill. Not anymore. Its a team environment with stagnant policies and too much praise for projects which cost much more and take so much more time because the whole team has to be involved. I was fortunate enough to retire a short while ago and I have to say, my gut told me there was something seriously wrong back then. PepsiCo is also geared toward the younger crowd and not too terribly concerned with those of us having many years of extensive knowledge and foresight. Too often I had seen the same projects rehashed from previous years from our young pioneers... no innovation, just reinvention and posturing. PepsiCo knew exactly where to place its ducks to keep up the positive public image while grinding away at its own internal work force.
