Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Unemployment question

What if you’re given the choice of being demoted to overnight manager or deny offer and take 60 days pay while looking for another position within the company but can’t find anything, is unemployment able to be collected?

In California you can collect unemployment if you are not placed after the 60 days, even if you take the severance pay. Also, if you were a manager and find something else at another location if it's hourly you should be able to get paid your last hourly rate.

From my understanding is if you are offered a new position, but decline it you don’t get a serverance compared if you are just laid off.

right, @ftn is correct, one your severance is gone, you are eligible... at least in california.

my wife had a similar situation, was offered a different position for less money (para legal) a few years back, she rejected it and went on unemployment.

There is no severance because a position was offered.
