Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

And now comes the Market Turmoil...

Because, we are in a recession and the only reason the stock market went as high as it did was due to corporations buying their own stock at any price, so execs could get bonuses, which were tied to stock price, not actual company performance.

This is why employees are disregarded and no longer valuable, because all that matters is the almighty stock price, which has NOTHING to do with realty, profits, or revenues, and everything to do with corporations spending every dime they have and can borrow on their own shares.

And now that most corporations are completely broke and have borrowed all they can to juice their stock price, the end game is here. Yes, that is what is going on, while you were asleep watching American Idol and Reality TV shows, so this came as a shock to you.

It didn't have to be, as many of us were not fast asleep and were paying attention, so you can look in the mirror for someone to blame, and think back to all the time you wasted sitting in front of the idiot box thinking all was well when it wasn't.

I calculated 43% of the payout was taxed in the state I live. This was insult to injury, very disappointing, no just disgusted.

No. Just clarifying what was taxed on my amount.

Why should Humana be responsible for paying your tax? And if I were getting the same award as someone in a Tax State, would you expect Humana to pay more to them so that we both get the same amount?

Many had state taxes taken out so a lot of us saw 40-45% of our one time only checks gone

I did not get an increase in my income. Did get one time payout that was taxed at 45%. I did get a 5% increase in my income tax for 2018 and less deductions.

Job offer today...easy. Resume looks good thanks to Humana. Loved my Humana job (RN), hated all the layoffs and threats! Good luck to everyone!

Not sure where you live but Florida is NOT in a recession. I am finding plenty of nursing positions posted for both WAH positions and hospital and SNF case managers positions, along with all the usual hospital and nursing homes floor positions ( no thank you, been there done that). Several of the other insurance companies are seeking telephonic case managers along with a number of smaller private companies who are currently expanding their services in the telephonic case management field. I have already gotten several call backs in response to resumes I have submitted, just waiting see if I am laid off before following up. Good jobs ARE out there, there is life after Humana.
