"I got a raise and bonus this year"

and given you are so exceptionally good, why are you reading this board? may I humbly remind you this is a layoff discussion board? or are you telling me that even if you are so good, you are in the list?

Yeah, well, if it boosts your ego, believe that it is you. There are certainly some exceptional people deserving a large bonus. I’d bet we won’t see them on this site.

There are various factors impacting budgets. Different orgs get different budgets and different allocation rules. A hard worker or excellent architect in a poorly funded division won’t get a huge bonus or raise. In my org, most people got a small raise (think 1.5-2.5%). Less than CPI. The bonus pool was so small that only a few people deemed at risk of leaving due to severe under-compensation) got something. Equity budget keeps shrinking every year. Everyone who gets “rewarded” (about 1/3 of staff) pretty much chooses RSUs, which should tell you something, too.

Yeah, we got the same justification for tiny/zero raises (“it’s the Equity that matters”). They seem to forget that we all know enough “math” to realize that the value of stock compensation has been dropping to fairly meaningless levels over the last ten years. If I were to graph it, the curve would cross zero in a couple of years.

As a manager i was told that while i shouldn’t expect a raise they will be giving out stock options. She said options are worth more than salary. I wanted to tel her she was crazy!!

Been w. this company for 3 years. No raise. I know some people that have been for over 10 years and they've only gotten 1 raise. These are support engineers who have to bear the brunt of customer anger due to some buggy code that no one bothered to check.

I don't expect Oracle to be handing out 1K bonuses or stocks anytime soon. They'd lay off some people first before even a thought of handing out bonuses ever materializes.
