Valued

Found out the is week how "valued" I am. Anyone else? Is everyone in the Westheimer office "valued"?

Got fed a complete line of BS from boss about ratings, distribution of ratings, and equality. Was told it was 5% exceptional, 25% high performer, 65% valued, 5% needs improvement and that no discretion to go outside those targets. Can’t wait to see if that distribution holds for directors and above......I know I don’t see many high performers and not a lot of valued either at that level, but predicting a bunch of exceptional and high performers. What a joke.

Very true. This system has been steered by an off the shelf app. It has created a tiered system which lets PLs off, in that they don’t have to consider their staff as individuals in developmental levels, rather on broadbands of mediocrity. No thought = Less buy in.

'Valued Performer' is the only other option above 'Needs Improvement' so basically it means you're just average, no matter how hard you may think you worked or how much you may think you contributed over and above your job profile. The term 'valued' is used intentionally for the psychological effect of making you feel like you're wanted at the company. Because of the bell curve, 'High Performers' are very few and far between and usually attained by having exposure and acknowledgement by executive management or leading high profile initiatives. We should probably accept that we will remain in Valued for our careers unless we fail to obtain a goal and end up in Needs Improvement. The old system made you want to strive for those next higher numbers as you watched your incremental progress. Unfortunately, this new rating system does not encourage workers to give more than expectation if High is too hard to attain. I, personally think this was the wrong change for the company to make and I hope they either add more levels in the future or just do away with rating titles altogether and reward hard workers monetarily.

I don’t know who’s valued and who isn’t, or even what’s fair in terms of pay. I just know in my bones that this is no longer a heathy place for me to work.

Many challenges, complicated internal politics, but highly lucrative, for me, anyway.

So many “untruths” at Enbridge. I’m beginning to wonder if Al is getting advice from Donald Trump.

It’s clear to me that only some people are valued and, yes, they get paid for it.

WE = we never pay above industry average - unless you are part of the ELT. So WE always see you as below average.

I’m sure Bain was paid huge bucks to tell ELT to tell employees that we’re valued.

Now that I’ve been told that I’m valued, how come I don’t feel valued? Answer: because I’m not.

We value you = we don’t want to get rid of you yet, but we don’t want to pay you any more than what we’re paying you.

Those who are truly valued know it.

They want us to know we’re valued before we get our STIP bonuses, to cushion the blow. It’s all about timing. What it’s NOT about, however, is sincerity, or they’d put their money where their mouths are.

Because, when it comes to SOME employees, they DO put their money where their mouths are. And there’s no need for them to tell those employees they are valued. They see it in their bank accounts.

Thats why i always said just do the bare minimum. Nothing over and beyod or additional responsibilities.

No matter how valued you are , you will still be a number for them that can be replaced anytime.

Take it easy and dont over work yourself. There is no point to put the extra effort.

Got the same rating. I did the stip calc using the 3rd qtr score card numbers. Drops STIP by 4 % when compared to last year.

Can valued employees still be boef’ed?

I’m valued too! Even after I took on extra responsibilities after a person left (it was a key role too, and well outside my regular duties) and finding efficiencies and having only positive feedback all year.

I’m hardly surprised this happened, since I don’t work in Calgary

My whole department is represented by "valued" performers as well. Funny how they threw that term out multiple times as if it were being read from a cue card.

Just wait until you see how being "valued" impacts your STIP. You will realize how under valued you are.
