Just heard that Verizon is going to hire permanent workers off of the street for fios installs and fiber splicing. The 30 month temp hires that were hired last April are going to be made permanent. This is good news for the future of the fios build out and also for the senior techs waiting for an eisp. It would save the company a lot of money to get rid of techs with 5 weeks vacation, are at the top of the pay scale and have a pension....replacing them with new hires that are at the bottom of the pay scale, start out with 2 weeks vacation and have an enhanced 401k instead of a pension. Getting people off of the pension would save the company money by not having to pay to insure it and also pay someone to manage it. Also, the people just starting out, of younput the maximum amount into your 401k, you’ll have plenty for retirement. I know a guy who has 20 years and puts in the max and already has close to 600k in his savings....and that’s with the regular 401k, not an enhanced one. I asked this as good news for the company and the workers!

I know they need 1st level foremen in our area. We have a Clown keeps firing them and the good bosses are leaving in droves.

I just hope they hire people with huge work ethics and not people with huge chips on their shoulders and zero work ethics.

We are told verizon is out of money. No tools, no trucks, no ot. Customers waiting 90 days.
Nothing about hiring in NJ. Maybe for installers. Yes there is a ton of splicing work due to NT. But there is a surplus of splicers here. Even if they do hire guys or get transfers from I&M to splice, I want to know what trucks they going to use. Seems to be a big problem here in NJ for new trucks. We even have splicers riding around in vans.
Well here are some facts......Spectrum/Time Warner and Altice/Optimum the two largest competitors in the New York City and suburban areas are building out an entirely brand new 100% Fiber network as we speak. Charter Communications in and Comcast are following suit with FTTP Fiber To The Prem Networks.
There is literally Tens of Billions of dollars now being invested in Fiber to the prem networks by Verizon's competitors. Common sense will tell you that these large Top fortune 500 companies do not invest that kind of money in temporary networks.
If Verizon puts all its eggs into a wireless 5G network and comes up with a rotten poor signal egg were all out of jobs.....and that's a FACT
Any future Fios build out will be completed by the company that buys the VZT footprint.

I hope i can get a transfer to the borough i live in. Why should a new hire get it first. I just want to work at garage ten mins from home. But verizon makes me commute 90 mins because of union rules about transfering
I know that this is good news to the linemen who were hired as temps. There is plenty of work putting up new fiber (Verizon just paid Corning 1.1 billion for fiber) and they have tens of thousands of double woods to be removed. Don’t think they will be laying anyone off in that department.
Hey Debbie Downer....How is it bad news that Verizon is hiring? Being trained to splice fiber is an asset that a lot of companies outside of Verizon are looking for. You get paid while being trained. No one knows if the company is going to layoff in 5 or 10 years, but if they do, you can easily get a job outside of Verizon splicing fiber!! I know of a few people who moved out of state and had a job lined up to splice fiber. And as an added bonus, people with over 30 years may get that eisp that they’ve been waiting for! Must be a wireless troll!
yeah remember that when you need a job the most they'll lay you off when you get older to reduce costs and take away vacation. So basically your saying anyone who takes the job can be assured to get layed off within a few years. I don't see that as good news for anyone. Remember employees, family and friends probably make up 5 to 10 million of Verizon's subscribers. it's not in there interest to treat them like dirt.
I certainly hope in NYC they choose wisely and not hire everyone's niece, nephew, cousins, kids, grandkids, next door neighbors kids....because whoever is in the hiring office seems to have a lockdown on one particular applicant and it's not going unnoticed.
They come in well trained by their sponsored employee on how to beat the company and get all they can by giving as little as the need to.....believe me this is true.
