More layoffs at Belk

A bunch of folks were laid off throughout the company this week. We lost our assistant store manager, who was actually a really good guy and a hard worker.

I'm really not sure what the point was. If they had to cut somebody, there are plenty of others who don't contribute half as much as he does.

Hopefully this will not continue...

They also cut part time "flex" hours to 0! Who does that? And is this legal? Didn't lay me off or even fire me just cut my hours to 0. But, I'm expected to come in when called to cover other shifts. Wouldn't that be called "on call". But, sadly I'm not being paid for "on call". Had to call in and ask why I haven't had hours in 3 months. Was told they took our part time hours away and gave them to other stores. What!? So I have to go without a pay check?! Sounds like the brass is looking to bankrupt Belk. But, that was the intention after all. Squeeze every dime from every area then walk away. And this they do after they have already ruined other peoples lives from their deception.

Don't shop at Belk. It's cut throat now. I've seen 35 year veterans forced out. Belk used to be great. Certain managers remain who are bullies in gulf coast

The changes at Belk are good for the short term, not the long term. loyal Belk customers are no longer shopping there, Upper management are leaving the company left and right.

Belk has made record profits, yet is laying off people making under $50,000 a year, Lisa Harper should be ashamed of herself while she makes over $3 million a year

Charlotte-based Belk has cut 58 full-time jobs company-wide.

The positions that were eliminated included assistant store managers, operations managers and sales team managers in Belk stores across 16 states, the company said Friday. Twelve such jobs were in North Carolina.

No part-time workers were affected in the most recent layoffs (for now)...
