Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

We had a visitor at our store today

The DM from HR came to our store today and will also be there tomorrow. I’ve worked for the company for almost four years and this is only the second time it’s happened; previous visit was long before the layoffs. DM spent most of the time on the computer or phone. Maybe I’m reading too much into this....I find myself admittedly overly suspicious these days...

You are experiencing what many are experiencing at Staples right now. No one knows anything other than, you are of no value, the quiet nature of managers is because they will not be given their list of people to layoff until a day before it happens. Don't be mad at them, they are as much in the dark as you probably. I had to let three associates go that did not deserve it just two weeks before Christmas. the hardest thing as a manager I had to every do because they pour their lives into Staples.

It was gut wrenching, I am still stressed over it. But two of the three have already found new jobs! there are opportunities out there you just have to be strong.

Hang in there if it is anything like Staples recent RIFs it will be a rough ride for everyone.

What region are you in? I’ve also heard chatter about BBB Outlet locations.

Had a terrible and abusive visit yesterday. I was singled out. I know it is me they let it slip about turning locations in our region into clearance stores. They covered it right up. I have always been valued up until yesterday. Several staff members saw it and said they dont want to work for a company that you try for years to move up and then get treated that way. I kept my mouth shut and went home. I have a couple phone interviews today.

Remember people all of these decisions are coming from the corporate office. The field people have no say in this. They are also in fear for their jobs. If they fire all of the senior managers who is going to run their stores? You know the district and regionals don’t have a clue on day to day functions. Keeping my head up and hoping they can get a better solution then layoffs.

Something is happening for sure. RVPHR, RHR, DHRs, RMs and DMs were all in a meeting today at our regional store. I don’t know what’s going on, but I know there’s a lot of chatter among ourselves but not one word from anyone in the meetings.

Was it RM and HR? In our area this week to walk stores. Only made it to two stores out of 8 here. I assume they don’t want to face the people they are laying off soon. They are fresh off two days of meetings I assume evaluate people to layoff.
