Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Less hours

I know everybody is talking about layoffs and changes to positions, but we've been hearing a rumor at our store that our hours are about to get slashed significantly.

Now I'm trying to figure out if this is just people speculating since we know so little about what's going to happen or if there was something to indicate this would actually happen?

They have been cutting hours for the last three years around the holidays leading into January to make budget. Not that we have been slower. Less numbers in the club and more frustrated members. Associates are being burnt out. Call ins are not helping during that time frame either. We can't call anyone in to help because be don't want to go over budget.

We cut hours during June through August as well for the same reason. But the hours truly don't go back up all the way. But expectations keep rising for the Associates. There has to be a breaking point.

Many clubs are going through inventory and the budget does not reflect that. Departments and members just have to bear the reduced staffing during that time.

It’s based on your clubs payroll budget. Your payroll budget is based off sales and prior year payroll. So let’s say last year your club decided to not use all or a lot of their payroll budget then that will effect your next years payroll budget (meaning lower factored budget) for the same timeframe unless sales have a major increase.

So if your club has payroll to spend they need to find a way to use as much of it as they can without going over to maintain the same ratio or else the budget will be cut because the company feels they club doesn’t need that much budgeted.

When full time was 40 no 37.5, wait 35 hours. Has anyone else noticed that it went down again? Yes it is true that is the slow time of year. But the question is will they go back up?

Hours being cut could be just the slow time of the year or for changes. No one understood why they were cutting hours right before the holidays but that was to help pay out accounting associates. They also cut hours right before they let audit go. It could go either way but hours are usually cut this time of year regardless.
