No matter how it is done, in the end you lost your job from a layoff. There is no sugar coating, back patting, smooth talking, tissue offering that is going to make it any better. FWIW, while the concall layoff was poor show, at least those laid off received a decent amount of severance' some getting as much as half a year's pay.
I was once laid off (not at Oracle). It was done in person, and I got a whopping 1 week of severance. I'll take the Oracle approach over that.
