Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Layoff Criteria

As far as criteria for the lay off, as other posters have commented, we will never know how we are chosen. For me, I do not use my health insurance, I do not take prescription drugs, so I don't cost them extra for this. I do maximize my 401K for the full company match and I did use the tuition reimbursement-a full 5,000 a year for 4 years. Maybe I cost them too much anyway, but not in the way of the health benefits? I do not know what the salary range is for my position, but I have not had a salary increase in 3 years. But...do you remember the confidential employee opinion survey that we took June/July? Not the survey about what benefits we would rather have (more PTO versus a pay increase, etc) but the one about how we perceive our leaders are performing and team morale? Well, without going into details, I gave my honest feedback. And know I am being laid off. Maybe that wasn't so confidential after all?

Also, while much of this is affecting HAH, there are people here that are employed with the corporate side of Humana as well. Several of my team members follow this site as well, because, as another person said, there is absolutely zero communication by our leaders too! I have asked my leader questions and never get a straight answer. Ever. So the issues you are having are in other areas of the company too. Might not be the entire company, but not just specific to HAH.

All of those assessments done on people were sent to HR who checked and double checked that there was no discrimination. Every protected status of employee was impacted in everyone of the RIF's. Good luck with your court case but be warned, if this is not clear cut they will want a good sum from you up front. There is next to no chance of a No Win No Fee arrangement on this. @Qy7jaZ3-8izx Which constellation are you looking at ?

@Qy7jaZ3-7hkd There was discriminatory measures exercised especially in the HAH In-home program but it would be very hard to sue so .....we all prefer to move on with our lives. With a large corporation such as Humana it really would be a waste of time. The only constellation that I have is that the old director moved to another role and they are hiring for that role so hopeful the next director will be a little more alert. Just be encouraged and seek new employment...you will be all the better with that. It worked for me...I was able to bounce back so I will have a pending job and nice severance check. Ignore the other post.. they come here to spread hate but must be careful of Karma.

GOOD LUCK

I cringe when people say they want to get a lawyer and sue for possible discrimination because its so naive. Beside the fact that unless there was blatant discrimination, the process to file these lawsuits is incredibly time consuming and difficult. You have to be involved, give depositions, have witnesses, have kept records of mistreatment and make a clear case. Even when there is real discrimination, which is not the case here no matter how much you want to think there is, it takes YEARs to do these lawsuits and your lawyer will get a huge chuck of any settlement - which would not be big anyways. No one is guaranteed a job for life and getting hired is not a promise you will never get laid off. Companies can and do lay people off all the time.

I know that as much as I ask, HR will never share why/how I was ranked to get laid off. Even though I live in a "right to work" state, I feel this was discrimination. Now I know Humana can't discriminate on race, s-x, religion, blah, blah, blah...but I feel I was discriminated against in other ways, ways not listed in the policy manual. The team bully is still employed and I never spoke up about it because I was afraid of being RIF'd but it happened anyway. I am thinking about having an attorney look at my case. Has anyone previously been laid off been successful with retaining an attorney to sue for discrimination? If so, do you know if the attorney has ever been successful in obtaining the lay off criteria lists from HR? What about filing a RIF dispute with HR? Has anyone ever done this?

Now the leaders did have to complete survey on their direct reports on those that were impacted so perhaps they rated you lower than others.. all weren't based on performance some were based on how you fit into the company future, getting along with peers and etc.

Can you say where you were a coach, which role? When were those surveys done? Is there a back up list for layoffs from the original one, or is the process starting again? And what is the company’s future to see if you fit in? If you didn’t get a bonus, does that mean you’re being laid off? Is it mid January, the RIF date?

Thank you for your posting, it filled in many blanks, maybe it can fill in more.

I agree with the below poster and if you are still with Humana at Home and the LTIH program please dont follow what BB said about speak-up with candor to your leader... You are as good as gone.. your leader or your leader-leader will ensure that you are RIFed. Just a note of caution.

I was a coach that was laid off this round and believe me those surveys associate surveys are completely confidential. They dont know who sends them in... I wrote positive statements about my leader and was let go and a team mate shared back a few months ago wrote very negative statements and was retained. Now the leaders did have to complete survey on their direct reports on those that were impacted so perhaps they rated you lower than others.. all weren't based on performance some were based on how you fit into the company future, getting along with peers and etc. I do know that factored in on me being RIFed but please dont feel like the survey caused it or using tuition assistance or using insurance.

interestingly I recently got another "associate survey" about my experience with the company. Email said "completely confidential." This time I didn't fill it out. I was impacted in November, so I don't know why this would come to me "randomly" now. Interesting coincidence, maybe?

Thinking about it though, I did voice dissatisfaction with my leader. Many issues going on there. Maybe that is why I was impacted, because for the life of me, I can't figure out what I possibly did wrong to get laid off

I think you just hit the nail on the head! I remember those surveys back in June/July, I don't remember saying anything negative, but I did state that I was unsure about job security and wished leadership would be more "transparent". Guess that did it because I was impacted. If I wind up staying with them lesson learned on filling out those surveys! WOW! Shame, shame, shame.

Humana executive leadership is terrible. This group is a bunch of liars that only cares about filling their own pockets. They state they care about their employees but do not make good. Strategy is do more with less but does not apply to executives. They slash low level jobs and give themselves million dollar bonuses.

I’m sorry this happened to you. Bigger and better things for you!

You are right that many people visit this site because communication is so poor. The word “transparency” has become a running joke on my team.
