My entire division of sales reps and manager were laid off today due to 'Organizational Changes in the hardware division' - Not sure how many people, but last day for this batch will be Jan 8. Storage, Tape and Sparc sales persons were dispatched.

Why is this a surprise? They leveled hardware and at some point and time the sales lackies are going to get the axe as well.

I can confirm that this is true.
I know for sure of 12 people in Spain, France, Germany and Benelux. Don't know about UK and Eastern Europe.

can confirm that this new rif is started also in EMEA. some colleagues in HW sales/presales in western Europe have already accepted the package, some have been warned the usual 30 days (find another job or you are out).
this time around it seems that Oracle is keeping a very low profile, nothing like what happened in sept, but nevertheless this new rif should be in the low hundreds figure around EMEA
Ironically I think most tape sales reps were spared this time around - in part due to there not being many of them left, and a revenue stream from the legacy STK customer base that still sees value in tape.
What is the severance package for these people?
Laying off people who are selling dead end roadmaps like tape and sparc. Color me surprised.

LE has no soul. Also there are no pockets in a shroud, but LE seems not to grasp that...or to grasp it very poorly. After he kicks the bucket, not many will mourn his passing. And his legacy will be that he was known as a greedy abrasive a1hole, full stop.
The 3 stooges are Scrooges aka self serving, greedy A:holes. There is a special place in hell reserved for people like that. That’s where your soul will end up LE.
I got let go today. I know of a few folks in the channel org who got let go.
MH, SC and LE get the real life Scrooge award 2017. Any bets what they receive, either pain now in Karma, or will it be in the after life? This is just sad.
About a century and half ago Charles Dickens wrote a novel about Scrooge who was a stingy tightwad during the Christmas season. That was big news back then. But even he didn't fire anyone, he gave them time off with pay... grudgingly. These days its not even news to fire people during Christmas or the Holiday season. Its common practice. When did heartless lack of compassion become the norm?
